Have a friend who's currently fighting this issue with his fiance's kid.

The kid is in middle school and has zero desire to do anything other than play video games day and night. No sports, no socializing with friends, just video games nonstop.

It doesn't help that the mom doesn't try to limit the gameplay or push other social activities on the kid. It's sickening.

Sadly, I have a nephew who fits this category precisely. He flunked out of junior college (now THAT takes some doing) a year ago, and hasn't gotten a job.

Says he's "too busy" to look for a job. Not entirely his fault. Mom and dad will not force the issue, thus he sits on his arse all day playing video games.

Once his parents are gone, he'll be a mooching off the gubmint. He has absolutely no ambition, drive or sense of self-determination. Never seen anything like it.

Many young men are dropping out of society altogether...video games are just the symptom, not the cause.

Boys see men increasingly condemned for acting the way men of previous generations used to. You can't shite talk some bitch who cheated on you or create a "guys only" club, because those are sexist and disgusting.

Boys also see girls get opportunities handed to them on a silver platter. In college, half the scholarships are for women only, 1/3 are for non-whites, and the rest are affiliated with the military and then maybe a couple leftover for those with perfect GPAs - preferential treatment given to women and minorities, of course.

Men are expected to compete against women in the workplace, but cannot exceed them. The moment a man gets paid more than a woman for doing more challenging work it's sexism. When women get paid more than men, that's equality making up for past wrongs. And of course, while women complain about getting paid less than men, none of them want to get romantically involved with a man who gets paid less than them.

In response, men aimed even HIGHER, spending years becoming engineers, doctors, lawyers, or entrepreneurs in the tech industry, then what happens? It's suddenly unfair to women. Women are actively recruited and given preferential treatment over equally qualified, if not better men.

Yes men are sulking away and playing video games and watching porn all day, but like I said before it's not the cause, merely a symptom. Young men see an endless ladder to climb simply to become "adequate," simply achieving that the average woman is handed today. Women get endless scholarships, job opportunities, and leeway in court and have the audacity to complain that men aren't keeping up, but the moment a man does - it's proof positive of sexism.

Boys are actively discouraged from trying to accomplish anything thanks to the media and shite preached in colleges today. So then they decide, frick it I'll just sit inside and play games all day. And you know what happens?

Women complain that games are too male-oriented.

correct and the fact you require assistance to decide whether to stick it out in the drive-thru or go inside the fast food restaurant is just as bad.

Yes, this is what's going to bring A Brave New World to present day real life... millennials playing video games. Not our police state, terrorism, civil unrest, the global resurgence of nationalism, etc. Bravo OP.

That's is the most ignorant statement I've read when it comes to millennial bashing.

I don't know a single person who just plays video games all day and doesn't work.

I'm thankful every day my parents didn't let me have a gaming system until I turned 16 and could buy one myself

I had a Game Boy and that was it during my childhood

I actually did things like play outside

I generally agree with what you are saying. But I want focus on certain things.

Most scholarships still have to be earned. Granted I feel that there should be more neutral scholarships as opposed to gender specific ones. Also, and this is besides the point, but women generally still occupy most lower paying fields. To a certain extent, the scholarships merely defray the costs on what is otherwise a low paying field.

The ladder just to become adequate is definitely becoming more a problem. Honestly it has become a standards issue. Men are more willing to marry down than women, and what women don't realize is that a system like this creates dating paradox. Only the upper-echelon of women will get the "preferred" partners while most will be left single and bitter.

Leeway in court is mostly only in divorce using kids. In any other court system women face the same repercussions. And if she makes more, SHE will be the one to pay alimony.

Because as well know, you can't play outside if you have video games in the house.

Maybe they should have got you some games, you might not be so... you.

I love how you just assume people in your age weren't gigantic attention whores. If you drop social media into any time period, you would get the same results.

I imagine they didn't feel it was necessary to explain what the other 40% was spent doing...
