The target was the whole world, but in this specific incident, it was a small uranium enrichment site in Iran...small like not big enough to make enough enriched uranium for nuclear power. This site was also discrete and unreported.
We developed Stuxnet because of that very problem. I guess now that we've given them arse loads of money, they'll just give up on being outlaws and play by the books

that Captain should have authorized some "warning shots" across the bow of one of those little RHIB's they were in...or he should have just shot off the Sea Whiz a couple of times just to make their butts pucker...bunch of idiots..
Warning shots have been fired in a second incident...

How did you come up with that? Isn't this a thread about boats?

We would destroy Iran with the quickness.

He was obligated to. Back before the Iranian revolution the government under the Shah paid lots of money for military equipment. When the revolution happened and the hostages were taken, Carter refused to deliver the equipment. Essentially, the US accepted money for the purchase and didn't deliver what the money was for. A committee was formed way back in the 1980's to deal with this, and it was only when Iran agreed to the nuclear treaty that the US released the funds. This wasn't some shady "bribe", the money was owed to Iran the entire time and is being repaid over 35 years late.
We should have sent them the original equipment they bought in the 70's.

Not much of an interception there. Title is misleading Bc I was all ready to be outraged and now I'm not.

No they actually signed a deal which allows IAEA inspectors in and have halted their nuclear weapons program. Go read the actual agreement as opposed to spouting ignorant BS
Speaking of ignorant BS? These SOB's have broken every agreement they've ever made to the U.N./et.al. They held United States citizens hostages for quite a long period of time then released them because they saw the handwriting on the wall ('79), and multiple times since.
A country run by a bunch of dammed religious zealots who are financing, now with Obarry cash, terrorists worldwide.
My goodness!

Okay. You're the captain. How close do you allow armed and at least presumptively hostile ships to approach? 200 yards? 100 yards? Do you let them board?
We already waited until they were inside our standoff range. I understand we're at peace, but anyone approaching an armed naval vessel in an aggressive manner is asking to be dealt with, particularly not communicating with or heeding warning measures such as flares.

My understanding, they ignored radio communications as well.

I would imagine little encounters like this are a frequent occurrence all over the world. I think the destroyer was pretty near Iran so it's no surprise. Wouldn't it be odd if a foreign military ship was cruising in sight of the US? I'd expect the US to at least send a coast guard boat to check it out.

Yep, I had forgotten all about that. They've always been known for adhering to treaties and agreements.
