I am usually on the LEO's side in these situations. The driver usually did something to escalate it. Asking if you have to put out the cigarette is not enough reason to arrest her. It is clearly where his temper took over though.
He has been placed on admin leave due to his unprofessionalism and lack of courtesy. Courtesy throughout the stop is required by the TX Rangers.
He was simply a bully with a bad attitude. Her killing herself is on her but it will be argued in the civil portion that had he not overstepped his bounds, she would not have been in jail.
Her family will be able to come up with $500 to bail the next one out after the settlement.

I've never been in a situation like this but I still appreciate the fact that we don't live in a police state where a cop and his commands are considered the word of God. You're essentially saying that even though this cop is abusing his authority, you should still obey. That's not helping anything either.

That is all fine and well, but don't be surprised if you get forced out of the car, put in cuffs or even arrested.
I don't think it's right, I just know what they're capable of and would prefer oblige and be on my way than potentially be brought to jail or tased.

I don't blame you and honestly, I'd probably put out the cigarette. But I wouldn't blame someone else for not doing so. If anything there needs to be more boundaries from the top down on what cops are even allowed to ask of people. Meaning, a judge could see that video and see that it clearly escalated after he was upset that she didn't put the cigarette out. Therefore, everything that followed is null and void. You abused your power and now your arrest is meaningless. Maybe then cops will begin to stay within their boundaries.

What would be SO DIFFICULT to just provide respect to the officer no matter what his/her tone? What is the worst that will happen to you? You get disrespected? Who cares? Why does everyone feel like they are so important these days?
I have had multiple encounters with police since my teens for drinking in a parking lot, having an open container on a florida beach, traffic stops, etc. Some were nice and some were jerks.
However, EVERY time I have treated them with the respect that their uniform deserves and NEVER had one problem.
She decided to lose control of her emotions in the car and then again in the jail cell. I do not see why anyone cares about this other than the family and the lawyer who want to get paid.

What would be SO DIFFICULT for the cop not to be a dick and work within the confines of the law? Whats the worst that can happen if he tries to de-escalate a situation with a person who is upset about getting a ticket?
I understand cops have a tough job but damn, yall act like they are all powerful beings that must be bowed to.

One time, I got pulled over and had a polite conversation with the trooper. I didn't get dragged out of my car, tazed, or arrested. True story.
