I remember when EA (I think) opened up a testing facility right by LSU when I was in undergrad

Yeah. Everyone has such delusions of grandeur about being a tester when in reality it's, "hey, run into this wall for 6 hours to see if you glitch through."

Work for our college grads so they can hang around a bit after graduation. Or other young people. Eventually if we don't get some higher end jobs, they will leave.

But a big criticism of this state is we don't have enough entry level professional jobs.

Tech industry is doing well in Nola. Accruent, DXC, Revelry, and a few other places are all going to be hiring big time in 2020.

Is DXC actually hiring people from the area? There were rumors damn near every job was being filled by H1Bs

Not as much as the NOLA Culture people will when they realize that Tech Money People don't like brass bands playing near their neighborhood.

It's been a mix of H1Bs and local college/bootcamp grads. DXC had a hiring freeze the second half of this year but they supposedly have a few big contracts coming up in 2020 and will be hiring again in Q1.

Professional, implementation, and consulting services always exist in every market. What you want are people in your area with customers from outside your area.

I think some of that is happening but my beef with some of these deals is that local companies pay taxes that are in turn used to subsidize their larger competitors (DXC, for example). It’s somewhat messed up.

DXC is moving towards the h1b route as far as I can tell but they have been hiring some locals too. All my technical interactions with DXC as a customer were with foreigners, but YMMV.

The QA companies like EA and Testronic are bringing in jobs that don’t cannibalize local jobs. my understanding is that they pay about what Walmart pays but I have no first hand knowledge.
