Vice President says U.S. expects Strait of Hormuz to be open ‘toll free’ long term

Vice President JD Vance said Monday he expects the U.S.-Iran deal will open the Strait of Hormuz without tolls for the long term, but shippers say the arrangement to cross the sea lane remains unclear.
“Our expectation is that the strait is going to be opened in a toll-free way for the long term, and that’s the sort of thing that we’re going to figure out in these technical negotiations,” Vance told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” in an interview.
Iranian state media has said Hormuz will open to toll-free transits for a 60-day period. The strait will be managed by Iran and Oman after that period, according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency.
The U.S. and Iran are expected to sign an agreement to end the conflict on Friday in Switzerland. President Donald Trump said the deal opens Hormuz without tolls in exchange for the U.S. ending its naval blockade against Iran.

The CEO of the oil tanker company Frontline told CNBC on Monday that he believes “vessels will start to move very quickly once a deal is signed.” Lars Barstad said he would have wanted “clearer language around the transit protocol, but that will hopefully come over the next few days.”

The global shipping trade group BIMCO cautioned that the statements from the U.S. and Iran regarding the deal are unclear and don’t provide sufficient information on timing and safe routes through Hormuz.
“Due to lack of details and a history of overly optimistic reassurances, we believe the security situation for the shipping industry remains volatile, and we still consider it very risky for ships to commence transits at this point,” said Jakob Larsen, the chief safety and security officer at BIMCO.
The threat of mines in Hormuz remains a major concern, Larsen said. Secretary of State Marco Rubio told Congress earlier this month that Iran had mined large segments of Hormuz.

You mean like it was before all this started? And just think, all it cost us was $300 billion direct-deposited to a terrorist state!

This is what I voted for

Go ahead and give us a breakdown on the deal and compare each point of the deal to pre-conflict conditions.
You seem to know all about this. Thanks, it will help us all see what you mean.
Should be pretty easy for you.

Except that the bearded lady who was in charge of a regime that backed the militants and terrorists that killed thousands Americans over the past few decades is no longer with us.

Sure
Before:
"Iran cannot be allowed to have a nuclear weapon"
Strait open
Terrorists in charge
After:
"Iran cannot be allowed to have a nuclear weapon"
Strait open
Different terrorists in charge
Iran +$300 billion

Isn't his retarded son in power now? Might be easier to topple the government or might just have a Mongol with power.

This is the exact same thing I was told to repeat on DU and Reddit. Thank you

I think this war on Iran's soil was stupid as well, and largely blame Israel for dragging us into it.
But Iran has been severely weakened by it. That is a big positive for the world. The "same" regime might be there with descendants of the old guys, but militarily they were neutered and it's proxy network and deterrence posture are greatly diminished.
But we spent a frick load of money we don't have and further perpetuated the cycle of the Middle East hating the West, which I'm sure will lead to a whole new generation of violence and terrorism.

So please someone explain this to me as if I'm 5.
We annihilate all their boats, and maritime weaponry, and take out most of their retarded leaders. They still control the strait and its taken this long to make a "deal".
If they are that incompetent, why did it take this long? Why didn't we just blow them to hell (or I thought we did)? So we gave them more money? For what? I don't understand.

Probably because we negotiated with a few different factions and this one seems like the most likely to be able to control the other factions.
Power vacuum may be likely and some form of civil war. Rinse repeat.
