Every time I visit Home I always get Cajun bacon cheeseburger and stuffed shrimp from Mickeys and Turtle Sauce Picante from Suires. If Vermillion Parish leadership were as good as the cooks down there, it would be #1 in the State or even the Country.

School board president: Everybody wants to take the side of the 'poor little woman'

Yeah, he has put his foot so far in his mouth that he can no longer speak. Somebody finally convinced him to shut up.

I'm not a fan of how this is turning into a women's rights thing, but those comments combined with the teachers lawyers probably trying to maximize her profit are doing just that. Its taking the light away from the real issues though.

The rest of the quote gets better:

quote:

“Everybody wants to side on the poor little woman who got thrown out,” Anthony Fontana, the Vermilion Parish School Board president, told WAFB in a phone interview. “Well, she made a choice. She could have walked out and nothing would have happened.”

Did he not see the videos while he was being advised by counsel?

She WAS leaving, and in the hallway outside of the room she asked the officer a question, to which he responded by slamming her bodily to the floor.

The issue of good ole boy network and sleeziness is the issue that needs to be addressed.

Oh and I found out that where our kid goes to school, it is ~$7500 per child to educate them. That's a far cry than the >$10K that it is in a public school in our parish. Granted the teacher salaries are higher in public school but $2500 per student is a huge difference.

1. Superintendent basically working 5 years under the pay he was promised.
2. Teachers in that parish rank 42 in state, Superintendant ranks 57.
3. Fontana helps put yes man on board after Herpin dies late last year.
4. People figure this out and know the raise is coming.
5. Hargrave is outspoken and the perfect person to call them out.
6. Fontana the lawyer will not play ball.
7. Superintendent caught in the crossfire and tries to address Hargrave.
8. Fontana cuts both of them off and has Barney Fife take over.
9. Barney does his best, despite not being ready whatsoever for what he is experiencing.
10. Things go terribly wrong.

Hargrave now gets attention, gets called brave, and will sue the very people who don’t have the money to pay her colleagues. Fontana continues to talk shite, and will be bounced and suffer with his law practice. Superintendent is basically done after more than 30 years because of Fontana’s control freak mentality.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY!!!

Dude, I hope there are more people that don't have your mindset than does.

A teacher was at a school board meeting. She raised her hand to get permission to speak, when she got the nod, she asked about the SIs raise and was giving her opinion.

A school board meeting is for the public. The school board members are elected so if they do something that the public has concern over, the public has a right to go to these public meetings and express concern. If it wasn't the right time to talk about it, she should have been told "we are currently discussing ____________. Please wait until we the end of the meeting and we will address everyone's questions".

Instead, the SI requested that she be removed from the meeting. In the hallway she was arrested.

Is that how you think government should operate? It doesn't matter what you think about the public's opinion, the public should be able to express their opinion and concerns without being removed or arrested because the public officials are too chickenshit to address the issue.

The public can have their opinion, but if the SI received a justifiable pay raise, then that should be their answer when it comes to question. They could easily say "the average SI in Louisiana makes an annual salary of __________. The board voted to give our SI a pay raise because we felt that we had to pay him a competitive rate"... Or whatever..

But what happened at that school board meeting was typical local politics and people should start calling these people out. It's called checks and balance.

And if they had done that then you know what would have been the next words out of Deisha's mouth? It would have been something along the lines of what the teaches are making. And what teachers make in comparison to what the SI makes is NOT what that meeting was about.

No, but it was about giving someone a raise for improved performance in the district. Someone who has no direct effect on that performance, yet he was given a raise when the people that do have a direct effect haven't been given a raise in a decade.

I understand that, and I'm not saying it's very wrong how things went down. My only point is that meeting was about if the SI had merit on his own to get a pay increase. You justify it by what he has done or not done, not by teachers getting or not getting a pay raise along with it.

Well, really it was about Fontana and his buddies finally having the numbers skewed in their favor to give their buddy Puyau the perks they wanted to give him.

Pretty sure they were going to give it to him regardless. The other board members had been hollering about the raise for a while, and for whatever reason wanted the Super out.

If that is the case then Deisha was REALLY REALLY off topic.

She was really off topic because the board was corrupted by Fontana and she was bringing light to it? What.

fricking disgrace the retards we have in positions of power in our state. Those dumbasses are the leadership of our schools and they couldn’t tolerate a person expressing concern. She articulated her points in a respectful manner and the police remove her then arrest her?

But a teacher raising questions at a school board meeting would be way out of bounds.

That' like having employees show up to a board meeting, and raising questions about what they are about vote on.

that't not the place for a teacher to be

that's a place for the taxpayer, not an employee

so, I'd say she is out of bounds...even if she is right

Couple of morons right here.

Teachers pay taxes too, idiot. So she isn't entitled to her opinion because she's a teacher, but Joe Citizen is because he's not a teacher?

If you down vote my comments at least provide a reason.

I just watched the exchange...

The old guard doesn't like to be challenged, that's for sure... She was mostly very respectful, yes.

but teacher pay and classroom size are another issue all together.

school board doesn't control teacher pay, the STATE legislature does.

what a mess public education is, and we have Democrats to thank for it..

most teachers are Dem voters...Why?
