He’s already indicated that he’s retiring, however, I’m thinking about running.

Oh wow. Hate I missed this all day - this is right up my alley.
Superintendent needs to forgo raise publicly, call teacher in - apologize, let her vent, kiss her arse so she doesn't own half the parish this time next year.
Years ago, I was the lead consultant when a rural Mississippi school district was making a policy change. A small group of parents opposed it and showed up at the board meeting.
I told the board to let me be the bad guy. I took the shite, I was called every name in the book by this good Christian citizens and the board voted unanimously to pass the change. The board bent over backwards to thank me for taking that on. I'm probably not welcome by about 10 people in Scott County, Mississippi, but I've made it so far.
They should have let her say her peace, listened, and voted to do what they want. She and the others would have been pissed until the weekend and then it would be forgotten.
On the raise, I have no problem paying the superintendent $140k. He oversees a $100 million budget and has seemingly done a good job. The teacher was out of line and the incident probably saved her job.

Well if you seriously run let me know I try to donate a little to all the candidates to keep friends over enemies.

Okay. So that one officer was going to arrest everyone? Like I said earlier, I am not at all anti-police, but if police or elected officials abuse their power I would absolutely say something. I am not just saying that to sound like a "bad arse", it's just how I am.
If a police officer suddenly decides to go around knocking on people's doors and telling them that if they have guns in their house, he is going to take them, would everyone just allow him to take them? He would be abusing his power and if people allow it to happen then it will continue to happen.

Are you stalking him through threads with this phrase ready to copy and paste? Gawd. What makes the repetitive shite from some of you boring arseholes any better? I care. He has some good points, what’s your problem?

Wow. I totally disagree with everything you said.
She was Teacher of the Year in 2016. How does this situation “save her job?” And what determined that his performance merited a raise when no one else got one?
The district rankings are highly dependent on teacher performance. Why haven’t THEY gotten a raise in years?

Lmao! You must be one of Fontana's cronies.

I have friends friends with no connections to Louisiana sharing this on fb, via BBC and other international news outlets. Good!
Just don't read the comments. First comment in every post reads the same: should have just listened to the officer. Why would you resist? Don't fight the office while he's arresting you. Or at least that's what y'all say to black people.
Many are making it a black versus white thing, instead of focusing on what it's really about. Guess it's too much to ask of people to actually click and read an article.

That's fine.
I work in the industry and there are many people who do disagree. If she decides to pursue legal action she will be a very rich woman. But someone down there needs to reward her financially so she doesn't pursue this. She's got a slam dunk and the students will suffer if she wins.
Superintendent may be a pompous a-hole, but $140k is not enough for what he does.

I'm from Alabama, live in Mississippi and only spent time in Louisiana to get a graduate degree, although I did marry one of your beautiful women.
I'm serious. This is not the teacher's business. A $38,000 raise is justified - the research shows it. You can argue that they went about it the wrong way, which most small town public boards do, but its not out of line and the the money was not either - or (meaning the teachers get a raise of the superintendent).
There is a salary schedule published for all teachers. They can look at it the day they are hired and know how much they will make every year of their career. For someone who chose the profession and knows this to go and gripe about their boss getting a raise is just dumb. I wouldn't want her teaching my children. And if the incident with the officer did not happen, she should have been fired for insubordination this morning.

I don't know that anyone would argue that, but it's the fact that a Board that is known in that area for being sketchy pushed for a raise for him before any teacher raises.
I mean seriously, what metric that districts are scored on can be directly tied to the Superintendent? And which ones can be tied directly to teachers?
He's not in the classroom every day. He's not teaching. Is he underpaid? Sure. But he's not exactly coming out and stepping up for the people that put him in a position to even remotely deserve that raise.

The local school board doesn't have the right to give teacher raises. That comes from the state legislature.
Even $140k isn't enough. He's running a $100 MM operation, not a Burger King. If he is successful (schools aren't falling apart, students are achieving, goals are being met), he should be rewarded.
Private school headmasters responsible for 1/10 of the staff and students make twice that and the teachers make 60% of what public school teachers make.

Well then go work for a private school. Problem solved.

So tell me, how much do you think a superintendent of a good public school district should make?

I don't know if that's correct in Louisiana. I remember a tax on the ballot in Lafayette years back that was for teacher raises for our parish.

Oh Lord. KLFY is reporting death threats toward the school board from "around the world".
Oh my goodness.

KATC
In the video:
Vermillion Parish
Teacher salary ranks 42nd
Administrators salary ranks 25nd
Superintendent salary ranks 57th
His raise really doesn't come off as bad as I thought. He has also improved the parish ranking from 16th to 7th and ranking from a B to an A.
