I mean this with all sincerity - that is pretty terrifying.
Well since it's most likely just another one of his fibs, don't worry about it.

Yikes. That's scary on many levels.

Nonsense. Is it far fetched to think that a test taken as a 17-year-old says nothing about the ability of a doctor in a medical clinic?

But if there is only one specific problem, and it can't be measured or approximated/generalized by the hundreds of intelligence subtests, then I would say that it's too specific to be an indication of a more intelligent indivdual.

If a problem can't be solved with a pen and paper in a few hours then it can't be an indication of intelligence?

You seem like you know more about the studies done about this. Maybe there is something that you can recommend. I'm just dubious of anything that asserts such certain knowledge over how the mind works. It seems like it is still supposed to be such a mystery.

Come on be honest. By the time you are wrapping up your undergrad, your curriculum is very specific. You are also in a field you are interested in. Graduate school as a whole for me, as well as many that have posted about theirs on here, was easier than undergrad. Some classes make undergraduate look like kiddy school but the program is geared towards helping you get through.

If you can pass your undergrad, getting your phd is not much 'harder'. It just takes time and dedication, and money.

For one exception? Of course not.

For multiple people from the same high school class or two? That is pretty preposterous.

You know multiple people from your high school that are MDs that scored around a 21-22 on the ACT?

Yes, 1 graduated from LSU-NO, 1 from Baylor and another is in med school currently.

On the aggregate, it's far-fetched--especially considering that it limits the types of schools one can get into. This would then limit the chances of medical school on that alone.

Was working in O&G, company was doing layoffs. Took a field position instead of being laid off.

But why should that carry more weight than board exam scores, the MCAT, or the GRE?

It was a dumb statement, but his point is not a bad take. Getting a phd in some fields is not much more difficult than getting a bachelor's degree. No one will deny the determination it takes, but it doesn't in and of itself tell me someone is generally intelligent.

It gets a greatschools.org rating of 2 and students have an average ACT of a 16.

He's the smartest idiot.

They wouldn't, but ACT measures many of the same foundational attributes and is predictive of outcomes.

True, but a 20 is not as limiting as you may think. You can get into most Louisiana state schools with that.

trust a high GPA more. A high GPA tells me they are willing to learn the material that is given to them. A high test score and low GPA just tells me someone is lazy. Also, none of this is relevant post highschool.

Lol

No all schools are created equal. Some schools....shite ones....it's easier to get a 4.0. While others....like Jesuit...are more difficult.

Yet everyone takes the same ACT.

so it wasnt a dumb statement.

fwiw, i was speaking for a person that has the undergrad. Continuing on to get the phd is more time and determination than it is intelligence

Sure. But for MUST students with a 20, they aren't going to choose, and if they do, fair well in the pre-requisites.

Again. There are probably a lot of exceptions, but it's highly unlikely that darryljames is telling the truth (history included).
