I still find it interesting that you've got a master's degree and are working on your doctorate in a STEM field yet your scores aren't significantly above average.

That's my point that ACT is a poor indicator. True, it is purely anecdotal based on my personal experience.

Mind you, I had my IQ tested as a kid and I can tell you that again those standardized test scores do not correlate.

one has a much lower ceiling and is likely maxing out at a lower-level high school plateau

I agree with this.

Im mostly talking college. If someone has a 4.0, they are never mediocre. There is something that is seperating him from the other people at his highschool.

Well chances are that person B would solve various puzzles better than Person A on a subtest takes less than 15 minutes so that ability would be captured in an intelligence test without needing to solve a weeks long puzzle.

Not necessarily. It could be a specific type of problem that can't be administered in that format.

But it doesn't tell a damn thing about wether or not they're capable of learning anything over that basic level.

But it doesnt tell me they arent capable of it. I know multiple doctors I went to highschool with that barely scored over 20 on the ACT.

The Theory of Multiple Intelligences
Does not have empirical support.

The most validated theory is called the Cattell-Horn-Carroll theory of intelligence which posits that there is a General Intelligence Factor (G) which is made up of Broad Abilities (e.g., Working Memory, Fluid Intelligence, etc.), which are made up of Narrow Abilites (e.g., Deductive Reasoning is part of Fluid Reasoning).

The Theory of Multiple Intelligences.

Some people can't solve a math problem or write a sentence to save their life. Yet, they can play any tune on the radio by ear. Other people are horrid students but are masters of persuasion and manipulation. We all have different skills, and current IQ tests only judge the abilities of a small set of them.

Thank you. That is a large part of the point I am trying to get across. I think the idea is fascinating.

You know multiple people from your high school that are MDs that scored around a 21-22 on the ACT?

Seems like a stretch

But if there is only one specific problem, and it can't be measured or approximated/generalized by the hundreds of intelligence subtests, then I would say that it's too specific to be an indication of a more intelligent indivdual.

It's interesting, but does not have empirical support.
There are different abilities, but they are all aspects of a General Intelligence Factor.

Therefore, the abilities are not independent of one another.

My best friend falls into this category. He went to one of the top emergency medicine residencies in the country in Cincinnati. I also fall into this category, but I'm only working on a lowly PhD.
