An email just came out about the strike. Shell is saying that the union wants more union maint. workers. This has been mentioned above.

That just makes it obvious they have ulterior motives for the strike...

Why would the plant not let other contractors works today if it's the steel workers that are striking?
Contractors that work at Shell everyday like Brand, Brock, Turner, MMR?

When the steelworkers get back in they will be mad the contractors helped the company stay running and try to set them up to get fired

Motiva Convent won't even let the contractors show up to work. My cousin is Safety Manager for a contractor out there.

That was always my thing. It doesn't seem like the union has a terrible amount of leverage here

Other contractors is both a safety concern and a union brotherhood thing. Many unions' members will not cross the line even if they are not on strike.

Some of the contractors in the plant have it in their contract with shell that they wont cross. I think Brock, and Sulzer are two of them that have said they wont cross.

Yea I went. It was BS. They do offer insurance(emergencies only) but with my being pregnant she is covered 100%. I would advise to go to the hall and fill out the form. If you don't fill it out then you don't get the insurance. Our insurance runs out at the end of the month so if you need anything health I would go to the doc this week.

There was a guy the other day at the hall whose wife is in the middle of a battle with cancer right now, and he loses insurance in 5 days.

fricked up situation, and if I were him I'd cross that line with a smile on my face if I could.

What if the guy is the sole provider? How is he going to afford the ridiculously high COBRA insurance?

He probably should have had some better contingency plans.

I'm not saying be able to live inevitably, but if he can't hold over for a few months until finding a new job then he really can only blame himself.

Poll: Based on what everybody knows about the current time line, Union demands, etc...predict a resolution date whether that be Shell caving or Union crossing the picket line, basically breaking any leverage.

They will soon. Deer Park didn't let anyone back for a week. And now it's on a limited basis.

The biggest issue is the majority of the staff running the place isn't qualified to write permits. So filling the place with contractors looking to continue as normal is just wasting money.

The focus is on keeping the place running safely, not doing project work.

Shell/Union will sign a contract within the next 10 days. No clue what the final will contain though.

It is a fictional qualification, they can qualify anyone walking through the gate in 2 seconds.
