Well it's much better now

Taxi charged my wife $75 yesterday for a ride from the airport to downtown Houston when it is supposed to be a flat rate

Which is good, because the professional taxi driver as we know it fricking sucks.

I notice driving on the Interstate a lot of second rate cabs doing airport runs, but registered in Kenner and Metaire. O wonder if that is a way to get around NOLA cab enforcement. Because they were all smaller older cars.

Cab service here sucks.

Nawlins Cab is the only one with a decent app and them and United will probably be the only ones able to survive the change.

I'll be honest, sometimes a cabbie is better. Not often, but here in Atlanta, I get UberX drivers who don't know how to get anywhere. I don't care, because I'm just going to the bar anyway. That said, if I'm trying to get to a meeting in SF or NYC, I want someone who knows how to get there, and I feel the odds are better with a taxi or Uber black.

For full transparency, everyone who lists a promo code (myself included) gets $5 when you use their promo code. Uber uses this as a way to boost business and get people out there trying the service!

This is the only drawback I have noticed with Uber. They never know where they are going. Usually not a big deal, but sometimes an alternate route is prefered and that doesnt happen with uber.

It's a fixed rate for cabs. She should have used uber, but it was a work expense. The guy "got lost"

It's $55 every time

Houston has apps for cabs too, the problem is more with a few of their drivers.

We use all three services a good bit since the cabs have a $6 fixed rate anywhere downtown here

They certainly upped their game due to competition, which is why your stance is absurd. A good bit of drivers we've had were former cabbies who say they make more with Uber and Lyft. They said it was less stressful and less of a hassle for them too

Where did you see this? The app doesn't show anything available yet and the Business Report had this yesterday:

quote:

Uber, meanwhile, is continuing to evaluate the market and last week held two workshops for interested drivers. "It's our way of making sure the market is viable," says Taylor Bennett, an Uber spokesman. "It's our way of gauging interest and making sure folks there are willing to partner with us so when it comes time to launch we have enough drivers." Bennett could not say how many potential drivers showed up for the meeting but he confirms the company does not have any drivers in Baton Rouge under contract and has yet to make a final decision on Baton Rouge.

it will put good hard working taxi drivers out of business. Now anyone can be a taxi driver and it will lower cab drivers wages. It will be the end of the professional taxi driver as we know it.

Driverless cars will do this anyway, as the cab will be able to take you where ever and you don't have to pay someone to operate it. Hell, a driverless taxi woudl be able to wait forever at all hours of the night if you needed it to, and won't smell like curry.

I used Lyft in downtown Denver last year. Pedicab guy wanted $20. The Lyft ride was $5 and I tipped $5. It was great.

On top of the convenience of hailing by app and knowing they will show, I love the rating feature. Shitty drivers are cut out quickly.

UberX can be hit or miss with drivers not knowing where to go, I've never had a problem but I almost always use it to get home and i am near a well known intersection. If I was in one of the smaller neighborhoods of Chicago I could see the problem.

Every single driver has been really nice and I like that. You can tell some treat it like a professional car service, while others are clearly trying to make some cash on the side.
