I'd still let her have a first class ticket on the train to poundtown, but I don't want USC to accuse me of rape and ruin my life.

No. The witnesses would be required to waive their rights. The accusedoat likely doesn't even know who the witnesses are or what they testified to. That's why this whole thing is literally a kangaroo court where the burden of proof is merely a preponderance of the evidence.
I'm no fan of Title IX, but each situation should be judged on its own merits. If the girlfriend denies it was abuse, the kicker denies it, they're both athletes, and he's still kicked out of school, I'm inclined to believe there is more to the story.
Could be a complete witch hunt, but who knows. USC reinstated Dixon a few years ago after he won his Title IX appeal, so it's entirely possible.

That's a shitty consolation prize for someone who's reputation has been dragged through the mud for an extended period of time.
"Sorry we kicked you off the team because someone accused you of something that was unsubstantiated then proven to be untrue despite the fact that we tried super hard to stack the deck against you and make sure you were guilty. No hard feelings, right?"

Pretty sure it's all good if the appropriate, intricately choreographed dap is proffered/executed by the offending party.

But he's a kicker on the football team. He could probably still handle anyone on the soccer team.

they would just fall over when he looked at them.

With some of the examples in recent years, I wouldn't even go as far as saying a preponderance of evidence is even needed. Just a suspicion that something happened.

That's fine and dandy, but the accused isn't able to confront his/her accuser or even know what they testified to. And the burden of proof is only a preponderance of evidence (I more likely than not the allegations occured, 51% basically).
You have no ability to cross examine the witnesses, they can say whatever they want, you can't provide evidence contrary to what they testify to since you aren't privy to that testimony.
It's very sad.

Indeed.
Also, there are absolutely no repercussions for those that make even blatantly false accusations against someone, i.e. mattress girl.

He can always file a lawsuit and get money like the guy who was accused by the mattress girl at Columbia.

Yeah, of course. I've already acknowledged it has major flaws, but this is the first time I've ever heard the alleged victim hire an attorney to prove she wasn't abused.
The absurdity makes me think the evidence against him from other witnesses was pretty damning. I'd like to see for myself, but I doubt that happens.
None of this changes how shitty the Title IX system has become.

Some colleges take Title IX to extremes - I know of a case where the girl had sex with the guy in the "female on top" position, and then claimed it was non-consensual sex when her boyfriend found about it.
College decision - expulsion.

Yeah, and that guy had to wait something like 3 or 4 years to get all that sorted out too. Meanwhile, he was treated as a pariah on campus and his accuser was encouraged by the faculty to publicly shame the guy through her "mattress project" despite the fact that she initiated and consented to all their sexual encounters. And the school did nothing to her.

That should go to show you just how fricked up that system is. You have to hire an attorney to prove you weren't abused because some random person hundreds of feet away might have misinterpreted you horsing around with your boyfriend.
These matters should be in the hands of local LE, not the goddamn school. If they want to base a decision on the evidence the police gather, then that's one thing, but suspending a guy because of one person's flimsy evidence is wrong.

That's not the college's fricking job. It's insane to me anyone would defend these weird "tribunals" which are literally put in place to circumnavigate the court system.
Can we get some ADA's teaching college algebra if we're going to continue going down this path?
