This is pretty confusing. She’s 16 and old enough to consent since the law is 15. But since he didn’t marry her he broke the law?
What kinda frickery is this law? A U.S. attorney woukd tear this law to shreds if this was on the books here.

Meh. Consenting adults. We let people that age operate heavy machinery. Surely they can choose who they want to sleep with. Sounds like the mom is only wanting charges pressed bc the girl got an STD. If she has STDs, and she’s banging her teacher, she was probably banging a lot more dudes than just this guy.

I don't buy the mother's story. If I had to guess, she was pimping the daughter out and targeting foreigners who she could then try to blackmail. This dude probably wouldn't pay up so she then went to the police.
