Guns have always been available

If anything guns are less available today then at any point in time

A story came out last year that depression isn't as simple as a lack in serotonin. That pumping people full of SSRIs isn't the best way to deal with depression.

It has always just been a way for the pharmaceutical industry to make zombies out of people and keep them addicted to their medicine.

It has always been demonstrated that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (aka talking to a fricking therapist) has been the best way, far and away, the best way to deal with depression.

Toxic society
Demonizing men
Fragmenting the cohesiveness of our society
Telling people happiness comes from material things
Lying to people that having a strong community and strong family doesn't bring happiness
Pushing social media
Pushing living for the here and now

That is driving depression

If you feel depressed, seek counseling

Honestly ketamine and mushrooms and MDMA in small doses has shown far greater effectiveness in treating depression than being a limp dick zombie on SSRIs for the rest of your life than anything else.

Why?

Because it actually helps your brain work through the mental anguish.

Masking mental pain with happy pills only makes it worse. It masks you from the lows... but also the highs. It makes you numb.

Facing your depression, and working through it through other modalities, under the guidance of a therapist has always 100% been the best way.

Not to mention the economic difficulties people face.

Give your money to Ukraine, die for oil and the banks, but also you're a terrorist extremist if you want a traditional lifestyle.

Our society is so far gone.

Do you really agree that we should go back to 2008 opiate prescription methods? Something had to be done. Yes, it caused a heroin\fent crisis but that's the drug trade doing what it does.

Suicides have definitely been up in my friend group. 3 in the last 2 years, one I hadn't seen in awhile but 2 that I never suspected a thing. It's a tragic thing and leaves their families in shambles.

Is Joe Biden really to blame? If so, how?

Of course Joe Biden isn’t to blame. He’s a democrat.

Definitely social media. Many people base their identity on a fake virtual show made to impress others. It is a hollow existence and undermines legit relationships based on love and respect. Lots of incessant online bullying too for young people. It’s a train headed off a cliff that many voluntarily jump aboard.

TD is not that kind of social media. No link to real world identities for 99.9% of posters

Everyone wants to feel liked, even misanthropes. There are studies that show that simple everyday social interactions lead to happier, longer lives. Stuff like interactions at the post office.

We get so much less of that, and so much more negative online interactions. Fights in comments on news articles are disgusting. For some, that’s their only social interactions of the day, with remote work and food delivery. Imagine the frame of mind that puts you in.

In real life it’s easy to feel some sort of connection or sympathy with almost anyone.

Also, exercise. If I was a psychiatrist I would have an exercise bike in my office and each depressed patient would do 20 mins of a good HIIT workout each session. There are entire books about how exercise is as good as or better than Prozac for depression. “Spark” by John Ratey was great.

Don't tell this to momentoftruth87, he thinks all therapists are quacks and that mental health isn't important.

Bull shite.

People have been isolated and home-bound. The internet/remote society we live in furthers that isolation. There are young adults out there that can't define a distinction between their online-gaming persona and their real life.

The media push division and hate. These people are taught to believe they are a square peg trying to fit into a round world. The truth is that it takes hard work and perseverance.

This blood is on our leaders. All of them. Guns have been around for centuries.

The availability of guns caused the depression leading to suicide? I'm no scientific rocket, but any root cause analysis I've done in the past doesn't really follow the logic tree that this person uses to come up with her conclusion.

Think about this for a second.

We currently have the most behavioral health doctors ever, the most people going to therapy ever, the most people taking behavioral health drugs ever and the highest suicide rate ever.

Something doesn't add up.

You can give a desperate person all the drugs you want and even see multiple doctors but it may not matter to that person… it’s very sad …. Mental health is a huge problem in this country, and even worse, it’s very unpredictable…

It’s human nature for life to have some sort of meaning, of being a part of something. When this was still largely a Christian nation, people found their purpose in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, family, and their community. They were to marry, have a family, and live virtuous lives. But our society has cast all that aside. For most people there is no more meaning to life than an endless pursuit of material gain and titillation of their base desires. This is an empty life that leads to oblivion in the end and that’s one of the main drivers of suicide today. People look at their life, see no meaning, no purpose, and it leads them to despair and eventually suicide.

I know many will scoff at this notion. But if they’re honest with themselves, they know it’s true. They just can’t admit it because it hits a little too close to home.
