But...they upped their admissions requirements and are all touchy-feely with grading now

Still pissed off I couldn’t get my Diesel Driving Academy sweatshirt to wear during senior year when we were allowed to represent anywhere we applied to.

Hmm...over Harvard, Yale, and Stanford? Interesting.
Not really. This is like the 12th year in a row that USNWR ranks them #1.

Whatever UF is doing must be in the water. FSU moved up 41 spots in 6 years.

Much of this is based on crap like Alumni donations and graduation rates for particular types of students like those who get Pell Grants.

The ranking are big on graduation rates. Shouldn't a good school filter out those unable to hack it? Why does graduation rate matter to the graduate?

Wouldn't it be in the interest of some schools to let people slide by to graduation based on what goes into these ratings?

Do your thing bruh, but whatever you do, don't join the smart folks who will just keep working on automating you out of existence.

Florida state govt actually spends money on its public universities, instead of cutting funding every year. If they meet certain goals, like improving graduation rates, the state gives them a shitload of money for research and new teacher hiring each year. UF and FSU get the most funding, and have taken advantage of it. Plus, as has been noted, FL tuition is dirt cheap.

According to the rankings, LSU grads have a higher starting salary than many higher ranked schools like FSU, Auburn, Tennessee and Georgia.

Malcolm Gladwell had a good episode on Revisionist History about how terrible these rankings are.

Princeton is almost exclusively undergrad oriented while the others have heavy grad program focus.

I think it’s dumb how Harvard has cheapened their brand with things like the extension school. Also I love the people on LinkedIn that list Harvard under their education because they took a free, ungraded online course.

I remember I think in the 90s, LSU was ranked in the 70s.
