Cycling chicks are pretty nutso. They chose a sport where they get their clam smashed on a little seats for hours on end. Thats not normal.

Hardest part is getting out of the US without the authorities waiting for you when you land. Despite how easily spies and criminals travel the world in movies, its almost impossible to get in/out of the US on a plane without a legit passport.

Interestingly, from Austin I would have planned to drive south across the border, sell the car, have surgery in Mexico, then head further south to Costa Rica.

Also for the first year I'm laying as low as possible and double/triple checking on any potential jobs, with a bag constantly packed. The feds were about to give up before she responded to the yoga job.

Idiot - she should have fled to SE Asia … plenty of yoga opportunities with better food and bigger cities to hide in

Two problems with immediately heading SE Asia. 1) Money, you might spend $3K or more trying to get a direct flight (can't risk a connection and another passport check) at the last minute, and unless you have cash on hand that could alert authorities, and 2) That's a lot of time in the air for the authorities to eventually track you.

I'm sure she was able to get a much cheaper same day flight to San Jose. Also, assuming they realize you are gone 12 hours after you board your flight, you can be halfway across the country in Costa Rica, or you could be on a plane.

If I remember, some people used free tickets to the Super Bowl or a big game to people with warrants and had a mass round up.[/quote]

Back when Washington D.C. had a team called the Bullets, the city did the ticket thing to round up wanted 'citizens'.

Just find someone that looks remotely the same and attempt to look like their passport photo. Hat, some make up, etc. and it wouldn’t be that hard I bet
How would you convince them to hand over their passport to you? Or would you figure out where they kept it and then steal it?

Is it fricked up the first thing this made me think to do was think of who of my friends and family’s identification I’d use to get out of the country? It’s a basic but smart idea, especially friends.

It’s a good way to frick up your friends/families life. They are going to be investigated for providing aid to a fugitive, and it will basically be guilty until proven innocent. Even if they determine you stole it, they are still going to be a PITA for the family member.

She should have used her sisters passport to fly to Russia instead of Costa Rica. Russia does not have extradition with the US and she could have blended in there and stayed there the rest of her life.

Why not just take a private jet to Abu Dhabi? I love these answers that assume she had infinite resources and options. The only good "should have" was from the poster who said she should have driven to near the border and walked across to Mexico.

Reminds me of a flight I had from Halifax Nova Scotia to Newark Liberty. I was among the last to get off the plane and the dude behind me was taken aside and cuffed at the gate. The authorities knew who they were looking for.

Yea so the US Marshals could pinpoint her general location. How do you think they knew where to post the job posting?

She probably would’ve had a better shot at short term freedom had she stayed in the US. “Her” passport is essentially what got her caught IMO
