Do you seriously want to wind up working your arse off to support what amounts to a deadbeat ex girlfriend? I have an uncle to pays $1000 a month to his ex wife whom he has been divorced to for 13 years. He has to pay her this money for the rest of her life unless she remarries, and she's not going to remarry. Couple that with the fact that even if you are lucky enough to get 50% custody of your children, you STILL have to pay a shite ton of child support.....think about that for a second. Why? Because the government knows that if you aren't supporting that dead beat bitch, then they are going to have to. So they enact laws that make you support her long after the relationship has ended. Seriously think about this for a second....you could be forced to pay someone your hard earned money for the rest of their lives just because you married them. This is AFTER she gets half your shite and ON TOP of the absurd amount of child support you will be paying if you have children with her. For you guys out there that make decent bank and have a dead beat woman sitting on her arse at home or even worse out shopping every day......hope you were smart enough to sign a prenup because if not you damn well better be ready to support her for the rest of her life.

We are becoming a lazy, entitled society and marriage takes commitment and hard work. Too many people give up and say what is the point of marriage.

There are a ton of good points made in this thread on why marriage is just not a good idea in many situations, but people not doing it because of laziness isn't one.

all the people that are responsible enough to have only 1 or 2 kids are the ones that should be having 4 or 5

Meh, plenty of people don't want to get married because they don't want to get stuck. That is just a lazy attitude IMO.
That being said, if you don't want kids, I see no point in getting married.

How do we incentivize this? People, at least not now with modern comfort, don't really think in terms of group strategy, so it must be made individually profitable or desirable.

Honestly though, we don't need more people.
Instead of responsible people having more kids, the irresponsible need to stop or slow down dramatically.
Government paod for vasectomies for people on welfare with a $1,000 cash bonus. Free birth control for women on welfare between ages of 14 and 40, etc.
None of it is mandatory. Completely voluntary.
