I’m not as confident it’s going to happen as I was in say February or even this time last year, but China wants it more than anything. They are the crown jewel when it comes to computer chip and semiconductor production.

As for policies that prevent it, it’s more the logistics and ramifications pulling it off that prevent China from taking it and a strong United States. The later has been removed, but it’s still a harrowing affair even taking the US out of the picture. It would at minimum take an initial invasion force four times the size of D-Day, and unlike Normandy, almost none of the beaches are good for landing, and the ones that are are on the eastern side of the island.

Then you’ve got to take into account Taiwan will know long in advance when the Chinese are coming, so they won’t take them off guard like they did when the Allies got lucky Rommel decided to take the day off they happened to invade. Taiwan has been preparing for this since 1948 so they’ve got a plan.

Then you got to take into account China is wanting to retain the infrastructure, so it won’t look like what we’re seeing in Ukraine. And if China still somehow manages to pull it off, then the Taiwanese will likely intentionally sabotage their own technology and infrastructure as a frick you to both the CCP and the West.

Isn't the west moving chip production outside of Taiwan because of security risks? Why wasn't this done the last 6 years?

Given how the State Department lied every step of the way in Afghanistan, yeah, not taking their word for it. Those mother frickers intentionally left Americans behind enemy lines and turned off the emergency line. They can frick right off if they think I’ll mop what they’re spilling.
