The biggest problem with the Libertarian party is the the people in the party running for office. It’s the same nut jobs as in the Democrat and Republican part without the same backing as those two. It’s what all these politicians would look like if we forced them out of parties, supreme nutjob douchebags we wouldn’t want operating our country.

My mostly strong libertarian ideology falls apart in some areas. And if you don’t accept the entire philosophy (some of which is crazy or impractical), you are dismissed as another Democrat or Republican. Can’t be a “grocery cart” libertarian in some people’s eyes.

The other problem is that the rational strategy even if you would best identify as Libertarian is to vote left/right at the end of the day (whichever candidate is least authoritarian). This leaves solely the "There should literally be zero laws" libertarians left to fight come election time and the candidates have to appeal to that.
A larger party that becomes like the other major parties (i.e. coalitions of several different wings) would resolve that.
