It cost 20k a year just in childcare for a baby.

Daycare just updated their pricing, it's over 1k for 3 month olds (and that's the cheapest in LR) and that's not including the supplies.

I can't imagine sending 3 kids through daycare. It would just be easier for me to stay home and not work

Too expensive to have a lot of kids these days.

This is probably the main reason. Most households need 2 incomes these days which means daycare for the kids etc.

Cost of living has gone up and kids are expensive. I just bought my first house with my wife and plan on having a kid soon anyway. I will make it work. I want to be a dad.

Married couples should get a 150k deduction per child.

I blame the education of this country convincing young women that a career and materialistic wants are more important than a family.

But also blame society for making family life unappealing. We no longer have a “village” and being a SAHM can be an extremely lonely option.

What’s wrong with someone wanting to work for a living and not stay home and wait on a man hand and foot? Life is a gift. Everyone should be able to do what gives them purpose.

That's the role of the wife. She should be raising your kids, not Stacy who is allegedly CPR certified.

I don't think staying home means waiting on your husband hand and foot. It means being a partner and taking care of the house and children while the husband takes care of the income. Each partner has their duties and they are equally important.

Give fifteen grand to every married couple who has a baby. And then give the parents a large tax credit against income taxes every year until the kid reaches 18.

2 major problems:

1) no financial sense for middle class to have more than 2 kids

2) women can be nuts at times

It's tough to support a family on one income these days, but it's ALSO hard to really get ahead if you have multiple in daycare/non-garbage schools.

A second earner in a family with 3 young kids probably needs to earn about 50-60k a year gross just to pay for the childcare that allows them to work.

Is this something that is fixable? It seems society as a whole has decided that living a comfortable/exciting/materialistic lifestyle is better than raising a large family. I think we should focus on a more even distribution of procreation than just allowing lower class people to pop out kids and not care about raising them properly.

Yep.

Back in the day when many/most households were single income, all the ladies of the neighborhood hung out and raised the kids together. Doesn't work that way these days.
