My guess? He likey had woke training in the Army and felt NK Army wasn’t inclusive enough so decided to go and change that.

I was stationed at Osan AB in 1983 and 1984. I did two tours of the DMZ while there. Both times, we got to go into the meeting rooms at Panmunjom but there were S.Korean guards that stood guard in from of the back door so that no one could go out through the N Korea side.
I've heard that there were incidents where the N. Koreans tried to snatch soldiers manning that post, so they added a second guard and that they stood guard with their arms interlocked, so that if they tried to grab one, the other would help to stop them.
In the end, only one guy gets to come and go as he pleases at the DMZ. You know, they guy that all of the media and the haters said would have us at war with N. Korea.

I hope this is sarcasm. I met some pretty dense people in 20 years in the Army. I’m pretty sure some of them couldn’t tie their shoes or wipe their arse without instructions.
A Medic friend of mine told me he had a few Infantry guys tell him they didn’t know they were supposed to change their socks on a regular basis while in the field. One guy had severe blisters on his feet because he kept the same socks on for 2 weeks.
