re: Ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy to remove kidney stones?

I had a kidney stone larger than a quarter. It was in my kidney for a while. It was largely asymptomatic except for about once every month I'd piss a lot of blood and have terrible right testicular pain. It would last an hour or two and then go away.
I ended up having it surgically removed. Radiologist runs a tube into your kidney (day surgery type anesthesia) then they wake you up. Then, the put you in the big operating room with regular anesthesia. The surgeon then removes the stone through the tube. It requires an overnight stay.
I was glad to be rid of that rascal. That stone was the only one that I could not pass on my own.

Country boy tries out for the A and M football team. Coach hands him a football and says "think you can pass this ball?" Kid looks up and says "if I can swallow it, I can pass it."

Like it’s been said the stents are the worst part of it. Nothing strenuous for me while they were in because I was pissing blood for two months with no shut off valve. I don’t care if I had to stop driving and jump out in the middle of the road if I had the urge it was happening. It makes me nauseous to read that you guys had stents removed while awake. I was put back under for removal no way they were doing that with me awake.

I had one scheduled. Fortunately, I was able to pass the stone after 2 weeks.
I struggle with the idea of that procedure and hope to never have it done.
Goodluck.

Having a catheter and stent removed tomorrow. Good times ahead.
The whole procedure is not painful, just mildly uncomfortable.
There are actually 2 options for the stent. One is they leave it in until it has to come out and the Dr. removes it in his office. The other is they put in a different stent and this one has a string attached to the end of it and they let that string protrude from your Johnson----much like a tampon string women use.
That way you can remove it at your home without having to go to the Drs. office. I told my Dr. that if I need that procedure again, use the stent with the string and I'll remove it at home instead of going to his office.

Had a stent removed for a kidney stone when awake. They shoot numbing gel up your pee hole. Not too bad on the pain scale but the first piss after the procedure felt like the fire of a thousand suns. The worse part of a stent to me is the constant feeling of having to urinate. I had lithotripsy a couple of times, but it was external. Was awake for the procedure and felt no pain.

I have a 6mm stone in the middle of my ureter that refuses to pass so I'm likely going to have the ureteroscopy soon. Only my second stone. First was 6mm as well and passed it on my own in about 3 weeks. This one has been in the same spot since the initial CT scan in November. Had the lithotripsy 2 weeks ago. I passed a few pieces of debris (about the size of grains of sand). X-ray yesterday confirms it's still in the same place and pretty much the same size.
I'm schedule for an IVP next week. They inject you with dye to get a better look at the stone on an X-ray. After that I'll have to decide between another lithotripsy or the utereoscopy.

Lucky. All I got was the numbing stuff they squirt in your peehole beforehand.
Yep, me too, all 3 times I've had this done. The only good part was there was the nurse who was very easy on the eyes who had me strip from the waist down and toss on that stupid gown.
Then she slapped on a latex glove and put some type gel on her thumb and rubbed that on the one-eyed head, waited about 10 minutes and came back with a syringe with a plastic nozzle and squirted more of the same in my drain hole. Then the Dr. came in with her and did the procedure that took less than 5 minutes.

I've passed 3 over 50 years! As a young man #1 was agony for 6 hours. Numbers 2 and 3 at 65 and 75 hurt no more than a minor back ache off and on for weeks. If you think you have one do see a doctor. Step 1 will be a check for blood cells in urine. If that's positive there will be some imaging to determine size, number, location, etc. If still positive a urologist will make a game plan. That may include fancier urine analysis to see if meds might reduce future occurrences.

I had a kidney stone that was too big to travel down the urethra, so I ended up needing a lithotripsy. I don’t even remember having a stent.
What I do remember is that the absolute worst thing was the kidney stone exiting the kidney.
Nothing after that (the lithotripsy, the many exams, the blood draws, the passing of the remnants, etc) even came close to the pain and discomfort of that first night.
So if the doctor saw a large stone in my kidney and wanted to break it up before it left the kidney, I would tend to listen to them.
The only thing I’m not sure on is how big is too big to pass, because I passed a pretty large remnant and it wasn’t really a big deal. It felt weird as hell coming out, but it wasn’t pain like what I felt before.

I had it done, wasn’t that bad. The catheter for 5 days was a aggravation and the removal was the worst part.

This stuff works wonders for me when I get them. Its tastes horrible so I don’t mix it like it’s says I take a dropper full straight and wash it down with clean water which is not as bad as having to drink a whole bottle of water that tastes like that stuff at least to me. Get mine at vitamin shoppe or order it. Usually pass the stone within 48 hrs to a week tops.

I can tell you the option you have. My friend had stones, she put off getting them removed. They blocked, she went septic, almost died. Had both legs removed below the knee and a few end of her fingers removed. Your choice.

Had one done about 5-6 years ago. The stent was painful for 2 or 3 days afterwards. They told me to pull the stent out myself after a week or so.

Two pieces of advice. I had the scope in the piss hole. That’s been about a year ago. The actual procedure is super uncomfortable going in, but coming out felt like I was being pulled inside out like a tube sock coming off a foot. Additionally, I haven’t pissed right since.
I’ve had two bouts of kidney stones. I’d do the piss hole scope again in a heartbeat to avoid another bout of kidney stones.

I just had the procedure done this morning. No stent needed which was a welcomed surprise.
The pain is bearable and is much less than a stone attack but in the same areas. But the fire piss is no joke. Just the tip burns like a motherfricker!
I’ll take it over the alternative 100x out of a 100.

I had a cystoplasty which is close to what you’re having.
They gave me the Michael Jackson cocktail and I never knew what happened.
I was good to go the next day after the drugs wore off
