2 are confirmed dead, the other is reportedly in critical conditions, but reports are murky.

UPDATE: State Police Trooper Jared Sandifer now says that two children were hit by a truck and killed this morning in the 800 block of Martin Street in Breaux Bridge while walking to school. A third child was also hit and is listed in serious condition at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge.
State Police initially reported that all three children were killed.
The driver of the truck was arrested, but Sandifer said he does not know yet what charges the driver is facing.
Sandifer said he does not believe the driver was taken to the hospital for injuries. State Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

I'm still not a fan of home schooling, but as soon as my boy is old enough, I'm making the time to take him to school. No busses, no walking.

If he was speeding at all he would be arrested for the deaths. I took a driver improvement course two weeks ago and one of the stories was of a sober driver who hit a child going 5 mph over the speed limit and was found guilty for that reason alone.

Looking at the neighborhood tells me the speed limit is probably no more than 25-35 MPH. Looking at that truck tells me he was probably going far faster than 25-35 MPH.
