So, in my search of trying to find prices, every step of the way they want me to give up a phone number. Did that mistake a few months ago and called it quits of buying a new car.

Is there anyway around giving up info to get a base price of a new car?

As one previous post stated, I usually just give them their own dealership #. If that doesn't work then I stick with ole faithful. 8675309

How does one go about finding out the Wholesale price on a used vehicle?

Hey fish, I have a free google voice number I give out in those situations. Pretty simple to get one.

I lease because I drive under 10k miles a year and like having shite under warranty.

I pay for my usage of the vehicle, just like I pay NTTA to use the tollway.

Will, fantastic work as always from the king of car buying?

Can you give us some idea of how to get a dealer’s invoice and dealer cost numbers?

What is it you are trying to say?

Is it not self-explanatory? He's advocating buying a basically new car that's not going to have much pf a discount compared to new, but will have reduced warranty, wear and tear, etc. Outside of luxury brands (where massive depreciation is still very real), that is pretty much the worst way to buy a vehicle. It's too new to get the benefits of buying used, while being too old to get the benefits of buying new.

Thanks will cover. I used your guide last month buying a new 2018 GMC Sierra slt 4x4. The sticker was over 53k. I paid 40k, got them to put in a bed liner and weather mats. They offered me 7k for my trade and they came up to 7500.

I had to use gm financing to get that price which is a joke bc the rate for 72months was 4.99 compared to 1.99 that my credit union gave me prior to walking in the dealership. Anyway, I took the deal, financed with gm, and before 30 days and my first payment was due, refinanced with my credit union.

I know they made money on me and I’m ok with that. I feel like I got a fair deal mostly bc I watched the price of the truck sitting on the lot for 6 months before I stepped foot in the dealership.

What do you guys think about, for a slightly used vehicle, where a great vehicle/price is found but is located a pretty good distance away (~120 miles), risk of agreeing to price via email then driving all the way there and getting fricked, i.e. Price higher or vehicle not available? Is that just part of the game; is it rare for established dealerships; any way to guard against it?
Thanks!

Never had that happen to me, but I would think putting a deposit down would alleviate that issue.

Magic, what dealership did you work with on this deal?

Assuming most GM dealers are pushing inventory to make room for the 2019 GMC Tundra.

Bumping this post with some questions. I've been shopping around online, comparing prices, and have started pitting dealerships against each other. Essentially calling one, saying "well they offered me x on the exact same truck, y'all have to beat that," repeat back and forth. Currently have an offer about 2.5% below invoice. How long is this going to work, and what do I need to do after it stops working to maximize my savings?

I have enough to put down about half and I'm financing through a credit union, but the dealer doesn't know that yet thanks to Will Cover.

How do you go about finding out what the "real" dealer cost is? Seems like this would be a secret guarded like fort knox.

You have to find out what invoice is. Subtract holdback, all rebates, and private cash offers from that price.

I purchased a 2018 Honda Ody last year below dealer cost because there’s also volume incentives they have. December is a great time to shop due to this.
