I can assure you, I am not offended in any way. I find it comical that it happened. I actually know her and I am surprised she reacted that way on social media.

You are accurate.

I personally hate the funk stuff they brought in, but the beer was cold and the company was good, so who cares. They had enough music I really wanted to hear to make it a great weekend.

It was a total disaster. You can partially blame the weather but it would have been bad anyways. They also need to move this from Jazz fest weekend, although in the past it did help them land some really great bands for cheap because they were either coming or going to jazz fest.
It rained a little bit Saturday morning. It was great the rest of the day. That excuse can't be used.

Of course she immediately went with the race card. If a white person criticizes a black person, it must be racist. Doesn’t matter if it’s not actually being racist, it just is though

And since it has been so overused, it's power or rather perceived power has been diminished significantly.

It’ll be interesting to see if the local media picks up this story or just leaves it alone. I’d be curious to see how the City administration handles it.

I doubt it. The news doesn't press a lot of local issues unless there is a criminal element to it. They try to stay above the fray if they can which is unfortunate. It was hard to take Von seriously after her last stint with city administration and this doesn't help her at all. I doubt Mayor Hall makes a statement, although he should.

I have to agree with you on this. Alexandria is actually worse than it's portrayed in the local media. Hopefully the new leadership will address that, but who knows.

I don't watch the local stuff any more but I'm sure if it is addressed it will be all over social media.

Image for job growth from 2008 until now

Article on Job Growth and Sanders Statement

quote:

turned to statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the government’s official source of employment data.

First, a technical note. BLS uses two different surveys to create its familiar monthly employment report. When measuring how many jobs are created or lost nationally from month to month, economists generally turn to the bureau’s survey of business establishments rather than the bureau’s survey of households, because the establishment survey is considered more accurate for counting employment level.

However, the establishment survey doesn’t break down data by race, so we had to turn to the data from the household survey, which does include a racial breakdown.

quote:

good news for Sanders is that she’s on target in describing the increase in African-American employment under Trump. From January 2017 to July 2018, the figure rose by 708,000, or essentially what Sanders said.

The bad news for Sanders is that she dramatically undershot the amount of the increase under Obama.

From January 2009 to January 2017 -- the eight-year period under Obama that she referred to -- African-American employment rose by just shy of 3 million. That’s vastly larger than the 195,000 she credited Obama with creating during that span.

Sanders’ error dramatically alters the comparison between the two presidents. Rather than Trump tripling Obama’s increase in African-American employment, it is actually Obama who in eight years quadrupled the increase Trump oversaw in a year and a half. And Obama had to deal with the fall-out from the Great Recession during that period. (We should note, as we usually do, that presidents are not entirely responsible for job growth under their watch. Underlying economic trends tend to carry more weight that any particular president’s policies.)

If you have a different perspective, please offer it. I haven't seen any data suggesting that Obama didnt help job growt. And I'm not bashing Trump, but his claim is inaccurate. Hes improving the trend, but it was already there he started.

If we do post the statistics on how African-American unemployment is at record lows and home ownership/real wages is at record highs, will you shut the frick up and acknowledge it?

Both the author (Lamar White) and his grandmother are morons for recommending anyone that was fired from a government job for "excessive absences". That's HR-speak for "every time they got an hour off they took it as soon as possible" and/or "they lied about being sick enough that we did an investigation and busted them on it".

We went down to check it out on Saturday evening. They had a DJ playing. After we were there about 10 minutes he plays a song that every other word was the F-bomb. Kids were every where. Highly inappropriate for a city festival. We decided the festival was a joke and left. Will never get that 10 minutes back!

Perhaps if they had less "cultured music" they would have a better turn out

I guess some people can't "entertain" without using the F Bombs and everything else said in that type of music...

I'd like to see the counter statistics. I would try to interpret them.

But were missing the point, it's not that there hasn't been a surge in the economy, but the surge can be traced to Obama's administration.

I give people the credit they are due, and Trumps tax cuts have helped the economy. But the only reason to deny the statistics I posted is because you just dont like him.

As the last part is particularly accurate. Business trends have more to do with an economy than Presidential oversight.
