It looked like an airplane headlight pointing at you and cast shadows.
Wait, are you claiming that venus by itself was bright enough to cast shadows?

Am I looking at the right thing? Savannah, GA.
You should be looking at the sky, not the city silly.

One looks kinda bright and the other is dull. Hope it's cooler looking next time in 800 years.

I didn't feel like pulling out the telescope but with binocs it is easy to see each of them. I wonder when they actually align(ed) viewed from SELA.

I never saw them aligned in north AL. With binoculars you really see the distance between them.

I pulled out the deer rifle and used the scope. Almost good enough to see the rings on saturn. Cool event. Made my kids view it so they can tell their grandkids in 60 years...

It’s not fully dark yet to the west but you can see Jupiter and dimmer Saturn right next to it pretty high in the sky.

I'd like to see it but we probably have too many trees in our neighborhood to get much of a vantage point.

It’s not bright at all right now. Maybe in 30 minutes

Now I’m know why it took the wise men two years to find Jesus. They couldn’t follow this dim arse star

They are pretty obvious in the night sky.

From NASA:
quote:
The planet Venus is growing so bright, it's actually casting shadows. November 28, 2005: It's often said (by astronomers) that Venus is bright enough to cast shadows. Few people have ever seen a Venus shadow. But they're there, elusive and delicate—and, if you appreciate rare things, a thrill to witness.

I can see it using a telescope now
Posted on 12/21/20 at 5:55 pm to East Coast Band
How much longer will it be visible in South Louisiana?
Posted on 12/21/20 at 5:58 pm to East Coast Band
What time does the peak brightness occur?

They're half a billion and a billion miles away. Where you are at on earth will not affect how aligned they are.

What is that thing to the right of it?
