2nd cousins marrying is not too uncommon. Inbreeding is definitely more of a rural event. Especially people who stay mostly isolated from society. The Amish have family tree has to be a straight line.

Everyone associates inbreeding with rural areas, but I also wonder how many people are inbreeding in the city without knowing it.
Example being, someone with kids from multiple fathers who are not present or known, then hooking up with their cousins or half siblings without realizing it. It could explain why their seems to be so much mental illness in the cities.
Great point

This is wild. I grew up in the county over from Odd so I've seen a lot of shite but never anything like this. I am glad the guy is helping raise money for them at least.

It’s unbelievable he was only able to get $30,000 for them on go fund me, yet the Muslim Africa momma idiot from the mall setting off guilt ridden Karen raised $75,000 in the blink of an eye for an attorney to sue whoever the hell she felt like.

The fact that this got 17 upvotes and 1 downvote is pretty disturbing.

In other news, the Univ. of Alabama has announced its support to have Univ. of West Virginia join the SEC. According to a spokesperson for the Univ. of Alabama, "We just feel that no other school represents the values and norms of Alab...er, I mean the SEC more than WVU. It's like we're kissing brothers/sis...er, I mean cousins!"

Worked with a guy that had to go to Arkansas to legally marry his first cousin.
Yes, their kid is fricked up.

This is actually more common than most people would believe. I’d bet there is one family in every parish / county that have a lot in common with these folks. I can think of 2 where I live. The mental disabilities and living conditions are almost a mirror to these folks.

West Virginia is actually one of the prettiest states I've been to, but there are some really, really backwoods poverty-filled areas with a lot of drug use. If you've never seen The Wild Wonderful Whites of West Virginia it gives a pretty straightforward look at the types I'm referring to.

My dad is from Follansbee, my mom from Wheeling. Steel country

Is that state big enough for the Whitakers and the Whites?

This scenario doesn't apply to just the cities. It happens everywhere. I used to work with a guy who said they were having Sunday dinner at his Mom's house when his nephew stopped by with his new girlfriend. They came in, went to the kitchen, and started talking. When the guy's mom turned around from the stove and got a look at the girlfriend of her grandson, she quickly left the kitchen dragging her son by the arm.
She told him that the girl her grandson was with was actually his cousin. He didn't believe her, so then his Mom went back in and started asking the girl questions that she shouldn't have known the answers to. Eventually, she let the cat out of the bag, and that was the end of that relationship.
Long story short, they started organizing family reunions again because that family was so large that some of them had no idea who their family members were.

For that matter, back where I am from (and most places around the country where this behavior is common), so many women have kids with multiple fathers. The father is just not in their lives, and they may not even know who it was. I would have to believe that in small town USA, there have been many hookups between half-siblings, that didn't have a clue.

My dad worked in rural WV coming out of college. He has some stories of the things he saw in the early 70’s. He said for most of these communities, if a person completes the 6th grade, they were probably the mayor.
