In my opinion, students should go to their own neighborhood schools. I don't care what color you are, as long as you live in the school's designated area.
So if they build more apartments in one of the "better" schools districts or make them section 8 and now more poor kids officially live in the school district...you are totally ok with that as well? After all...students should go to their neighborhood schools.

I signed a few days ago. Let’s do this

you frickers stopped knocking on our doors.. Signs everywhere that say no solicitations but guess that does not apply to St. George..
You should learn the ordinance bro. It’ll give you a hint. Louisiana doesn’t use the word soliciting, we use peddling. Which is defined as propositioning someone for goods or services in exchange for money.
Gathering petition signatures is not covered under this, which is why they are not affected by the no solicitation rules.
The more you know!

Doesn't seem to be a actual legit reason not to, other than it's racist.
I got excited that someone mentioned this, and then I realized this isn’t the poli board and there’s people who are able to think on the OT.... at times

EBR has already done that in multiple areas. Like I said, I don't care who goes to my son's school, as long as they live in that specific school's borders. I don't agree with kids being bussed in (via "transfer" bus) from other parts of the parish.

poster in their proposed city has asked numerous times why he should support it, how it would affect his life and make his situation better than it currently is.
I’ll explain it in extremely simple terms for you.
Okay. The last 20 years the middle class has fled east Baton Rouge parish for ascension and Livingston. This is a fact. They flee for better schools and less crime. They travel into the parish for work and leave the parish to live.
This, of course, is horrible for the parish as all the good middle class tax money is leaving. So. What has stemmed this exodus?
Well, central has helped. So has Zachary. But the exodus is still there. If st George passes, then it will help stem the exodus, just as central and Zachary has.
Now. Tell me. What’s better for the parish as a whole in 15 years? The formation of a new City which keeps tax payers IN THE frickING PARISH, Or continue with the status quo of everyone who has the means to flee, does so?
It ain’t rocket science buddy. Something has to change.

The reason I support the cause is because I have a young son currently enrolled in the EBR school system. He's at a decent school (Shenandoah Elem.) but what happens when he gets to middle school age? No way would I ever consider sending him to any of the public middle schools. So, what are my options? A) send him to private school; B) move to Ascension or Zachary or another district that has decent public schools.
I send my kid to ebr public schools and he loves it. He said its great practice for his future career and he’s got daily opportunities to improve his skill set for it. He wants to be a ufc fighter when he grows up

How will St George magically get rid of crime?

Well. For starters. There have been zero murders so far this year in the proposed city of st George.
Also, they have a 4 million dollar line in their tax budget to pay for more sheriffs to be added to the force.
More cops are better than less cops eh?
But long term, and of course you know this, wealth and education lower crime rates. So, via keeping the wealth in the parish, and keeping educated people here, crime naturaly gets lower over time.
Now, how will crime be in 15-20 years when the exodus is still happening and more and more of the middle class leaves? Does it get better?
I’m no wizard, but if the exodus continues and you have less and less tax payer money, you have less to spend on education and cops, and the problem gets worse.

Yes, and that thing is not creating a city, leaving BR to fail. You act like White flight is a thing that must happen and that there isn’t anything we can do about it.

Right. So don’t make a new city to keep the people and their tax payer money in the parish. No no. That’s racist.
Instead, let those same people move OUT of the parish entirely and drive back in to work.
Because. Logic

This is a Baton Rouge resident thread... those who have already fled need not comment

How would forming a city change this?

You mean those smart enough to GTFO right?
It must suck to have to try this hard to save a place. Not when you can just easily move to tons of other places in this country that already have their shite together.

You’re a recent college graduate from out of state
You get a nice job in Baton Rouge. You know nothing about Baton Rouge or the area. You start to google.
Oh hey. Wow... Baton Rouge... lots of murders... lots of crime.. let’s see what else is close in the parish.
Oh wow. Look here at st George. Right outside of Baton Rouge. Still in the parish, and I can get home from work quickly. No murders? Wow. Okay. I’ll look there.
Now. Multiply this over and over from out of towners who move into the area for work.
Would you rather these educated and wealthy people move into the parish? Or would you rather them move into LP or AP?
It’s okay to answer honestly.

Come on now...no one out of state is gonna move to Baton Rouge unless they have family ties there.

But how would forming a city change that?
And recent college grads don't want suburbia, they want the city.

Exactly. They don't give a shite about school districts cause kids/marriage are likely nowhere on their radar yet. They are still in their 20s. They just want to enjoy having money for the first time. Live close to where all the fun places are in the city. Travel. Go out with friends.

Change what? The perception of the area? I mean I laid it out in black and white. Safe arse area right outside third world Baton Rouge.

I wouldn’t quite call st George Suburbia.
So.... how do you propose we change the crime and education problems we have as well as stemming the exodus of middle class to the surrounding parishes?
If st George isn’t the answer, what is? What is YOUR alternative?
How would magildachunks fix the exodus and keep the middle class in the parish?
