Womp womp.

So. Tell me how keeping the status quo of the middle class fleeing the parish to LP and AP will totally help fix the massive problems in Baton Rouge.

Find it odd that you somehow think that If we keep doing what we’re doing (aka losing tax paying citizens to the surrounding parishes) things will get better.

Hey friend! Welcome back. Care to answer my questions that you conviently refused to answer?

So.... how do you propose we change the crime and education problems we have as well as stemming the exodus of middle class to the surrounding parishes?

If st George isn’t the answer, what is? What is YOUR alternative?

How would magildachunks fix the exodus and keep the middle class in the parish?

You have completely ignored and failed to acknowledge anything or offer a solution yourself other than building a magical new city out of a finite amount of real estate and tax base and seeing what happens.

I laid it out on page 3. But sure. Whatever buddy.

So. Keep the status quo of the middle class leaving in droves, or attempt something that has been proven to work (hi central. Hi Zachary)

Even if it does fail, is trying to fix the problems better or worse than just saying frick it and keeping the status quo?

Because I live here and call it home. And, I care. I want to see our region (and LA) grow into something that could attract outside interest. St G won't bring in the business/industry to grow the region. You are dealing with near stagnant population growth (outside of New Orleans). This whole region has to come together with a master plan (one that includes everything from schools, bridge(s), other infrastructure, zoning, etc. St G is a patch that won't fix the underlying issue plaguing Baton Rouge.

Regional plans for drainage, bridges, transportation and etc. are important. I agree, in that area the state has failed us and parishes in our region do not work together. You are right about that.

Regional plans for schools, no. Schools aren't dependent on neighboring counties or parishes.

Use Texas as a model. They have ISDs. Counties have multiple ISDs. There aren't regional schools.

Inept/ineffective 'leadership' is what plaques our state and region. The failure to make unpopular decisions for the betterment of all along with a refusal to actually verbalize the OBVIOUS negative factors, causing the majority of our problems ! let's start with the most obvious...1. over-spending on the multitude of higher education facilities, need to scrap or convert the worst and politically entrenched universities to high tech or industry specific trade schools 2. 'minority leadership' must focus on things such as personal responsibility, lawlessness,PARENTS involved in their childrens lives/education,out of wedlock breeding and general dependency on state/federal handouts....that's simply no way to go thru life !

You’re foolish.

There’s a finite amount of land in Louisiana. We should stop developing in the state. Your logic is not sound. There’s plenty of development to be had in the St. George area. Travel down Nicholson, Burbank or Siegen. There’s land for development.

You actually don’t need to develop much of the area anyway. You’ll have 80k people of which most are hardworking middle class citizens that can support themselves. It will be a safe place for families to live where you won’t have to travel through unsafe and trashy areas of the parish to seek entertainment or schools.

Just admit that you’re part of the old guard of Baton Rouge that will lose power when this goes down. The end of the city/parish government will help out too. I’ll love it when that happens.

St. George has had its signatures for weeks. It’s gonna happen. SWB’s inner circle has already accepted it and are talking. It’s time to start damage control.

How do you know this?

It’s no secret. Go to Live After Five and talk to people. Read the Baton Rouge Business Report. They’ve thrown in the towel.

OK, so you think we should just keep doing the same thing and expect different results? You realize what that's the definition of, right?

This is nothing new. Like I said, I've been here 30 years, and I'm sure the same problems existed before I was here. During that time things have gotten progressively worse. The parish has had ample time to come up with a "plan" but instead they continue doing the same old crap and things keep getting worse. I don't see how anyone could possibly be OK with that.

So do like most have done in Texas and skip the incorporation of a city part and put more effort into forming ISDs?

The problem is too many educated, productive families migrate out of our parish. Hopefully SG will help keep them home and attract transplants.

Not gonna lie, I’m one of those who is on the fence about staying in EBR or heading to Livingston. The St George thing would absolutely make us choose to stay in EBR. it’s a big deal to young people starting families. I love EBR and don’t want to leave I’m sure there’s many like me.

The initial plan was to do exactly as you suggest. The organizers tried for two years to get the necessary votes in the state legislature, but came up just short.

They were advised by several legislators that they needed to incorporate first. They were told that only a city could become an ISD.

The organizers took these people at their word. They are doing what law makers advised them to do, form a city.

I had family member who had to make a decision too. After signing the first petition, and then watching it get picked apart; they moved to Ascension.

It's a shame. Not everyone can afford private school.

1. Looks like you forgot to log out of your Magilda alter
2. You obviously are ignorant of the proposed city plan. How have Central, Zachary and others made their magical cities? Maybe it's because the plan isn't to waste hilarious amounts of taxpayer money on marble towers. It's a leaner model.
3. There isn't a problem of real estate. There is a problem of people getting fed up with the status quo defenders who are ignorant of 30 years of decline, and leaving with their families/finances.

It could be a great area. It mainly just lacks good schools. And it could use its own superior grill. But mainly schools.

Zachary is running a $3 million deficit. Central can't get city services figured out yet. Not sure of their budget.

You obviously haven't been to Central or Zachary lately. Both are circling the bowl. Two of my best friends from college moved out of there in the last year and relocated to New Roads.
