. We had no major complaints about the public school options, both neighborhood schools and the gifted and talented programs (all went in to HS at BRMHS or McKinley). We lived in the proposed St George area (Lake at Whit Oak) until we moved a couple of years ago and were opposed to creating the new city then and remain opposed today.
Another Magnet school parent who opposes St. George. So what you're really saying is that your kids have their golden ticket for superior schools punched, and you really don't give a crap about the other kids who don't qualify for G/T or Magnet schools.

That weak troll got us an additional 100 signatures, THANKS!

dear lord, I hope this St George thing really happens. We’d be there in a heartbeat if it’s done right. Pretty sure it’ll be done right.

No, you wont. And people, tourists, businesses, industry wont flock here for it, either.

That is because the NBR economic development district is on the ball attracting tourism at the BR Zoo, businesses, and with the great schools the large amount of new residential developments.

May I ask where do you live?
In SG? Do you have kids in s magnet program? What's your real beef?

St George doesn’t need industry or tourists. What are tourists gonna do go visit everyone’s new houses and good public schools? All the industry already exists 10 mins away in Baton Rouge fool.

Here's his reasoning --
quote:
Because I live here and call it home. And, I care. I want to see our region (and LA) grow into something that could attract outside interest. St G won't bring in the business/industry to grow the region. You are dealing with near stagnant population growth (outside of New Orleans). This whole region has to come together with a master plan (one that includes everything from schools, bridge(s), other infrastructure, zoning, etc. St G is a patch that won't fix the underlying issue plaguing Baton Rouge.
Yet neither he, nor the other naysayers, nor the current higher-ups in the parish, have any plans or alternatives.

I've lived in EBR over sixty year. I remember when NBR was a solid part of BR. What's happening now is a slow rot. If it isn't addressed it will eventually kill the parish.
Educating our kids in their neighborhoods is key. We can't build magnet schools for everyone. We have to provide for those who can't qualify for magnets or afford private and we have to separate those that are there to learn from those who don't want to learn.
An ISD helps in this regard. A clean, safe city helps nurture good education and will compete with other areas to keep good folks "home".

I own 2+ acres in St George and would build a house & move back from Houston within months of this happening, since all my family is there.
So I see your unfounded pessimism and raise you a real-world rebuttal.

Another one with skills lacking in reading comprehension. And, lacking the tools for a higher level of critical thought beyond " we gonna build it and they comin".

Still waiting on you to explain how keeping the status quo is better in the long run.
Find it odd you still haven’t explained that one yet

I think you’re misunderstanding the motivation for the people who want to create SG. As far as I can tell, they’re not trying to save LA, or the region, or even Baton Rouge proper. They’re trying to save their own neighborhoods, because that’s pretty much all they can do.
An old boss of mine once told me, “When you’re in charge, you can make people do a lot of things, but the one thing you can’t make them do is give a s***”. If you live in Baton Rouge and the surrounding areas, that’s basically the situation. You live in the same area with lots of people who don’t give a s***. You can’t do anything about that except try to make your own part of the area better.

I don't think it's that they don't give a shite about the state of the city. I think it's more that they are so wrapped up in wanting a spot in office, that they bypass logic and reason to avoid stepping on the toes of those who will be voting for them. I think this goes on at all levels of politics to a certain degree, but in this city (Baton Rouge) it's the only thing they go by - progress and improvement be damned. That, and mishandling funds and/or tax money.

Do you live in SG? Do your kids go to a magnet or a gifted school?
We know you are a concerned citizen and you love BR and you want us all to work together.
I'm stupid. Educate me.

I’m talking about the constituents. Politicians gonna politician, I agree with that.
The thing is, this whole SG deal basically comes down to two things: schools and crime. Crappy schools and high crime rates are both functions of lousy/nonexistent parenting done on a large scale. And unfortunately, they’re is a disproportionate amount of people in Baton Rouge who are practitioners of this and are perfectly fine with the outcome (crap schools and high crime).

No, you won't
So is it beyond the realm of possibility in your mind that I may own a lot in the St George area? How about having family back in BR?
Can you handle that scenario?
If you can't handle that, then congratulations on the complete sentence.
If you are willing to believe that a person such as I can both own land and wish to build a home close to family, why would you dispute my rebuttal?
Think bigger than you are.
