re: Update on my daughter’s cancer and mine

I understand your frustration and feelings towards your daughter but I would suggest a second and third opinion; doctors are not infallible and often make mistakes. It may not change her prognosis but it certainly could. Every cancer hospital is absolutely not the same and even “good” ones may not be good in certain areas. I would strongly suggest if you can afford it to go to MD Anderson for a second opinion on her and you, all oncologists and cancer treatments are not equal. As far as UAB goes, they are great for very treatable, common cancers like thyroid, prostate, skin, etc. but pancreatic is far from common and far from treatable. Even a slight tweak in chemotherapy, radiation, hormonal treatments can be the difference between success and failure. Both of you need to be there and do not Google diagnose or be persuaded that it’s your only option. I am incredibly sorry for your situation. It isn’t fair. I will be praying for you and your family

quote:
I just learned last night talking to them it is HER2+
It's a protein that is overexpressed on the surface of some cancer cells. Because there are antibodies that have been developed that can target that protein/receptor, it allows for combination therapy. The antibodies along with chemo can work together to take out the cancer cells more effectively, and then the patient can stay on the antibody therapy for a year or more following to try and find stragglers that survived the first rounds of treatment.
It is something you can do throughout life to try and catch any tumor cells from that cancer the creep up.
The negative is that HER2+ tumors are usually much faster growing, but because of the targeting, and especially if her tumors are hormone positive for estrogen and/or progesterone, it adds more combination therapy that can be used to take the cells out.
Don't lose hope is the main thing, because while it seems to be hard to hear the incurable statement, as I mentioned, this is simply because you can't definitively guarantee it is gone for good once it spreads. It can still be put into remission, and with her being HER2+, it means she can receive the prophylactic treatments with the antibodies to help manage it moving forward once her initial treatments are done. And newer versions of these treatments come out all of the time, so here's to a positive outcome for you both.

All the best to you and your daughter.
Encourage your daughter to try it all, traditional and alternative together, not one or the other. Chemo, radiation, immune therapy, theranostics, keto diet, ivermectin and fenbendazole among others.

quote:I think it would be foolish not to try it. Some take ivermectin and fenbendazole for preventative purposes.
from what i read online the fenbendazole, mebendazole, and/or ivermectin drugs are really helping with cancer treatments. these are drugs that have been around a long time and are finding new purposes.

There’s at least 3 people on this board who disagree with me mentioning it. If I’m facing what these people are facing you better believe I’ll try the drugs that have been around for decades before some experimental drug. What could possibly go wrong? I know the OP may have not heard of these drugs, but if I was him I’d start doing some research and after that I’d be asking my doctor if he’d be willing to incorporate it into treatment. If he says no I’d be looking for one who is willing.

Lots of bad info in this thread.
UAB is great for GI cancers. There is very little in the way of clinical trials for pancreas cancer that is non metastatic at mdacc.
In terms of her2+ breast cancer, there are certainly patients that live many years with taxol or taxotere with herceptin and perjeta followed by herceptin and perjeta maintenance and still having enhertu as an option down the road. To bypass established high level evidence to try non proven therapies like ivermectin and febendazole or albendazole is a bad idea in a case like hers when new drugs could be around the corner. With the antibody drug conjugates and BITE therapies now out it may not be long until lots of these become more manageable even if not curable presently.
Get a doctor you trust. Make sure he or she explains everything to you and reviews NCCN with you and move forward. There are often tweaks that are institutional preferences that have never shown a meaningful outcome difference that may be pushed some places over others but these are not game changers.

Are yall going to try the fenbendazole/ivermectin meds? I see many promising stories saying it worked.
I would also add fasting to that list. Magnificent things happen to the free radicals in your body after a few days of fasting. There are early studies showing a lot of promise with it.
quote:
Fasting can activate autophagy, the body’s “cellular cleanup” process. • In cancer cells, fasting can also trigger apoptosis (programmed cell death) in some contexts.
Y’all can both beat it. Stay positive brother!
