I was fortunate that my house was very close to the levees and spared from any flooding during Katrina. Many of my friends had some major work to do but nothing compares to this.

Report just now 2 of the 15 dead were a couple, 99 and 100, who celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary this year. Relatives say they simply could not manage to get out and died taking care of each other until the very end.

I live near there. One of the 15 fires is in my county, still utterly unchecked, apparently started on a reservation (native americans). For several hours we had wind in the gale force category with gusts over 60, often. That tidbit about advancing a football field in three seconds is the key to grasping the horror.
I am somewhat packed. Its all in luggage except some in car and some i use just gathered in a plastic tub.
Papers in safes.
This is not my first rodeo. A series of fires was set intentionally last year. Hes in napa (criminally insane). I hear they torture him.
The broken off flaming tree parts advance miles ahead, carried on the gale. The noaa predicted the wind. You cant stop morons from old trucks metal scraping the roadway or pulling out onto dry fields with hot mufflers.
I have talked to such folks in my town. They act like you are their crotchety old aunt, blow you off. Nice people. Mormons up the street. Totally in denial.

The lower lake fires, "clayton" were set by an arsonist.
The previous year the valley fire took 1300 houses. Since then volunters make the 1,000' hike to 4600' summit of mt konocti where the unfunded fire lookout sits. They would see his nefarious work and call in tankers.
Eventually he set one that they could not stop in time due to wind and it destroyed most of the houses in lower lake. They were onto this individual already and found him and the part you wut! Is that guys who work there told me that was on the agenda.

Actually I didn't hear a single person say anything like that and all my local grocery stores were collecting money for Houston at check out. Dumb frick.

I grew up in the high desert (Mojave Desert) just south of Death Valley. Winds of that speed aren't uncommon. And when the winds come down from the Sierra Nevadas and the Tehachapi Mountains, it gets colder that all get out from October till April.
