A Scott County judge stunned the courtroom and the victim’s family members on Tuesday when she declared Alexis Saborit “not guilty” in the beheading death of his girlfriend America Thayer in July 2021.

The ruling reversed a prior finding by the same judge, Caroline Lennon, in May of this year when she declared Saborit guilty of premeditated first-degree murder in the gruesome homicide that took place in broad daylight in a Shakopee neighborhood two years ago.

The case shocked the Twin Cities after details emerged about Saborit, who is an illegal immigrant in the United States, and after witness accounts emerged and parts of the gruesome homicide were captured in photos and video.

Disturbing news from the Twin Cities tonight.

A woman was beheaded in Shakopee, a suburb south of Minneapolis.

Police say there is NO threat to the public. The suspect is in custody. He allegedly took her head, drove around with the head hanging out of the car window...

Photos and video confirm this and are going around on social media.

The images are way too graphic and I don't feel right sharing them, but they're out there if you want to go looking though.

Friends remembered Thayer, a Cuban immigrant, as hardworking, kind and warm, according to SW News Media.

Nicky Kendrick knew the victim for five years and said she used to visit her every day at work, the outlet reported.

“She was soft-spoken, so funny and always had amazing stories. She always went out of her way to say hi to me when she saw me,” Kendrick reportedly said.

“She was just truly the kindest to everyone. I haven’t met anyone as genuinely kind as America was since my late grandma.”

“I had no idea it was her at first, and then a mutual friend messaged me and it all clicked,” she told the outlet. “I’m devastated, it’s unreal and I just have no words.”

My Pillow co-worker and friend Jamie Worley said Thayer worked 70 hours a week, according to the article.

“I went there today and went to the store and got her a rose and a teddy bear to put on her desk. When I got there I didn’t even look at any other of my co-workers. I just stood at her desk with my head down. Everyone was just crying. It was a very emotional day and it still is,” Worley reportedly said.

A vigil was reportedly planned Thursday night at the scene of the execution.

Yep that is it. Suspect just casually picks up her head then goes looking into the car for something.
