Thanks for keeping me informed. I live in Deer Park and I will freely admit I am getting apprehensive.
I am not worried about an explosion-that seems far-fetched and I live far enough anyway-but I am not sure about what is burning and what's the risk.
So, what do y'all that know think? Should I take me and my family away for a few days? They already canceled my son's school again tomorrow. Wifey and I can square it. There's just so much bullshite being spread that I wouldn't mind hearing what y'all think.

Good live feed here. Looks like they are starting to get a better grasp on the beast

I would leave , why not . If they are canceling school why not take the fam for a little break. I don’t think the air quality is really that great . What is acceptable by environmental vs what is good for you are different things

I would if I lived in Deer Park. Head down to Galveston for a few days and see how things go.

I'd head out if it wasnt for work. Something about this weekend got the midstream companies real jumpy on their projects. Wind is supposed to be laying down tomorrow which is going to be pretty terrible if that smoke plume ends up falling to the ground.
Oh and here's a rather interesting take on the transparency of our local governments

No doubt VOC’s and PM is thru the roof.
Deer Park, Galena Park, Channelview, Pasadena, La Porte and Sheldon ISD’s are all closed tomorrow

You can smell it in the air. We’re testing all our operators...ERT guys who responded to the CIMA call and our guys back in the plant daily for exposure.

I think you are probably right. At worst, we get a little vacation.
I just feel like I am overreacting.
Oh well. Side on caution and maybe catch a few fish.

I don't no all the chemicals that have been burning but I know one of the tanks is xylene and that shite is bad.

Latest update is that now only 4 tanks are actively on fire. Apparently smoke is thinning down. Looks like they may be getting it contained

Without revealing too much, what plant are you with? Chances are we've ran into each other at some point

Click2Houston
Halfway down the page there is some pretty compelling drone footage. The around the 6:50 mark you can see a burned out fast attack truck near the insulated tank.

Yall HASC classes eat up a full day for me every year. Used to do a lot more work with yall before one of our old exces tried to hassle yalls higher ups for contract payment before the typical 90 day period was up. Douche lost us a ton of survey work before burning out.

What was the last pit you worked on?

Last one I was on was a simple topo survey along the dike wall that runs along Thunder Road. Before that we were putting a line in for Magellan right along yalls fences on Cotton Patch Bayou
Probably end up over there soon whenever NextWave decides to stop fighting with yall and reroutes their pipe.
Eta: Fires out but man does it smell like arse on 225

Smells like shite over here in Pasadena-more than usual.
The post-mortem on this will not be good for ITC (obviously), talking to the guys that were helping fight it...lots of questionable decisions made by their IC.
