If they have body dogs, they must not have the body, right? Maybe the parents were there to identify the belongings.

Maybe the body has been ripped apart by scavengers so they are looking for any missing pieces with the dogs

A dead body is going to get destroyed in that wilderness really quick, so this is plausible. My guess he's been dead a while and they'll never find all the pieces. Usually the skull remains though, too big for animals to carry.

Poor kid... He was probably so distraught and heartbroken after the love of his life got murdered by some psychopath camper that he took his own life. It was just more than he could bear.

The night officers searched his parents house 1 of the offices brought what looked like a pistol case out of the house and when he opened it on the driveway you could see it was empty.
