I can’t see him digging a grave where they have the tent setup where they apparently found the body. The ground looks like rock. I have dug a few holes much smaller than a grave in ground much softer than that, and it made me never want to see another shovel ever again.

Extrapolating from east TN is not going to be easy.
Do you remember when the D.C. police found the body of the intern Chandra Levy in Rock Creek Park? It's not all that different from near Knoxville, but the bugs were different. I know this because I know the professor who was contacted by our Government because he had the expertise for much closer to that area.
That part of Wyoming may not have much local knowledge of insects much less carrion eaters. It's a long way from the University of Wyoming and even farther from their agriculture center that used to be a big thing just west of Cheyenne.

There is a local Ace Hardware in Jackson about an hour away and maybe a couple of other small types of hardware stores. No Home Depot or Lowe's out that way. They probably carry a smaller shovel since they were dispersed camping to bury body daily body waste. He had to have buried her or the bears or other animals would have been on her remains and also other campers would have seen her body out in the riverbed.

A camping shovel wouldn't be adequate enough to bury a runny turd in that terrain.

I meant the tent/sun shade the FBI set up where they found the body. There are a few pics of it taken via helicopter. Looks like rock.
