Globe Temperature Sensor, GT-1TM and GT-2TM are used to estimate the heat stress on the human body. The globe temperature, in conjunction with humidity and ambient air temperature measurements is used to calculate the wet-bulb globe temperature (WBGT).

They could have been used to probe warmth under the trailer is all I can think of, if he buried her there the grass would be torn up so no need to sense underground?

Why is NCIS involved?
Is one of the principals military or the victim a military dependent? Did a crime take place on a military reservation?

They blocked off a hwy in Pender County (outside of Wilm NC) to search for her body. It would be about a 45 minute to an hour drive from Jax, NC. This is my local station they are doing a press conference now.

I think NCIS came from the Marine base. I think they just kindly offered to help and it is good practice for them.

Yep.
Local police might have asked for help too. They probably don't have much in the way if resources.
