people just talking back and forth.

Bond set at 250K. Nobody for sure if he will bond out or not. At the very least he is spending the night.

Rest is all speculation.

Isn't it 11%? So about 27.5k give or take a little.

If you throw up the entire bond, this case 250k, don’t you get the entire bond back once the case is closed.

60 Minutes did a segment this year about how bad the NOLA Public Defenders were failing.

How do 50 lawyers handle 22,000 cases? They can’t. New Orleans public defenders say the criminal justice system needs urgent reform.

New Orleans public defenders admit they’ve not been able to adequately represent all their clients and innocent people have gone to jail.

You can always appeal a conviction, but that's no way to approach a case as the likelihood of success is so low. But there's no vehicle for a court to say "that sentence for murder was excessive, the judge should have given you 30".

Is there a precedent to reducing a charge, before trial?

Yea.

If you get caught with even "just weed" 3 times in LA you are super fricked.

And if you are still in probation from the 2nd, those charges come back up IIRC

Edit: not 3 strike life fricked just felony fricked for the mj.

To each their own, by it doesn't appear he was overcharged in this case, as of yet.

I understand. Just thinking ahead. Obviously he just had to retain counsel above what he ever thought was going to be necessary. They will discover and go forward.

I'm not sure. I've only bailed someone out for pretty minor offenses. I know you don't get that money back.

No, it's just specific intent to kill or commit great bodily harm.

First degree murder is specific intent to kill, but with an additional qualifier (victim under 12, over 65, or a first responder or cabbie, or felony murder, which is a murder during the commission of certain violent crimes).

No motive, evil intent, malice, etc.

I was under the impression you get the money back if you post the entire bail no matter how much it is. The money you lose is when you go through a bail bondsman. Could be wrong though.

yes. SS would have been smart to go to Mississippi to do his heroin instead of doing it and getting caught in Louisiana.

Sure, every day. Most pleas are built upon either reduction of a charge, i.e. Reduce the possession with intent to distribute cocaine to a possession of cocaine, so now you're probatable.....or, the state agreeing that if you plead to the charged offense, they won't file a multiple bill afterwards to take away your good time and increase your sentence because of prior felonies.

Not wrong. Bail is an assurance that you appear. Not a money grab for the court.

You're right. Marijuana third is 0-2 years, and you're getting probation.

If you have a ton of felonies behind it (not the first two marijuana convictions) you can be multiple billed, but the multiple bill law is no longer 20-life for a fourth offender on all charges, only crimes of violence. They complicated the law, but also made it much more friendly to narcotics.

The DA declined to prosecute his third H offense, so he’s good on that front. He’s locked up in St Tammany on a third offense DUI that he did a few months for in 15 or 16. I’m sure part of his probation for that was “don’t get arrested again, baw.”

Seems plausible. I went through a bondsman to get a few buddies out years ago for things like DUI. I probably didn't have $1500 or whatever it was in my early 20s.

That's great news. How much time did he catch?

Yeah. It was cheaper and I didn't have any money in college.

Mj 3rd is a felony though, even if the first two were misdemeanors , is that right?

Obv MJ and H are different but LA is a bad place to get caught multiple times
