Well sorry I didn't know everything is done legally in USA.
The family of a murder victim doesn't decide whether charges are filed. They might have some input of charging or sentencing.

One guy is dead. Sucks just a little more for him and his family.

It is unlikely prior to the APB (and even possible after it) that he would have gotten caught flying. If I was going to run I would personally have driven and crossed into Mexico in Brownsville headed to an international airport and flown to the country of my choice. However, doing this and funneling the money is not as easy as people think for the average upper middle class family.

He doesn't seem to realize the family can still go after this guy in a wrongful death civil suit. The criminal case doesn't exclude that option.

Is there such a thing as hard labor any more?
At Angola, oh hell yeah. There is a separate work protocol for hard labor sentences. They do the hardest work, rarely get days off and if there is no work in the fields they do indoor work.

In the proposed scenario, he bolts before he gets charged with 2nd degree murder, tries to disappear abroad and hopes the government doesn't pull out the stops to catch some dude facing one second degree murder charge in Louisiana.
Also, keep in mind that nobody is saying it's a great option, just that compared with a few decades in Angola, it may be the least bad of a bunch of shitty options.

Second degree battery is up to 5 years in prison.
Second degree murder in LA is life in prison with no possibility of parole.
Yeah I’ll take the guy still being alive and the second degree battery

Ya I get that, just not why you'd want to drive 20 hours to Mexico to fly somewhere. once you're on a no fly list you're done anyways

The idea is to get to a non-extradition country. I would fly out of Mexico just to make sure I don't pop up on some list trying to fly out of the US. ONce I am in Togo or the UAE I don't care that NOLA knows where I am at.

would think it's possible if zero facts and evidence are released then maybe the two sides could come to a settlement I figured shite like this happens a lot in cases that don't blow up in the media. It's only relevant bc it's BR and we are on TD
Family gotta bribe the DA to settle. So it could happen...

Just getting back to this thread but didn't know about kicking him in the head while down, question withdrawn.

I'm just saying this case is not a blip on any damn msm radar. It's only this big bc it's BR and TD. There are so many damn scenarios we can create of what happened but we have zero clue. the posters in this thread clearly are saying this boy is guilty. I don't believe this.
I have been in several situations where crazy idiots come at me off the streets who are not right and have literally scared the shite out of me that I didn't know if they were going to assault me. If they did, I would have won easily based off there capacity and state. If I had to defend myself, one I would be pissed for him putting me in the situation because I'm not looking for trouble and who knows what anger level you are at when it happens to u especially if ur drunk. Two kicks to the head could have happened in less than two seconds before you aware that you defended urself and stop and calm down. It's happened in Nola most of the time after midnight and in BR at shell by TJ ribs plus Denver.
If some bum sparked it, and I defended myself and he ended up dying, you damn right I'm hoping this doesn't blow up in the media with hopes of possible settling somehow with the bums family members. Funny how all of sudden they care about the person. It's clearly a money grab by them. I guess In the end he left them an inheritance after all.

The girlfriend was not with him. I think he's a good guy because he's my friend and that's a personal opinion. I have no reason to lie about his GF being with him and not sure why I would if she was

Too bad because his gf might've helped him out.

What all details do we have on the 60 year old? Was he homeless? I’ve been busy at work and haven’t had time to keep up.
Eta: I just can’t see Garrett attacking someone in this manner other than to defend himself. I’ve been around him many times where we’re drunk and this is totally out of character. Blows my mind
