Charged, booked, and bonded out for battery?

So, they already had a case. Only the situation
of the victim changed.

If he has been in and out of the system, for let's say robbery, etc, will that play a factor?

Not likely since Ward had no way of knowing at the time

What type of robbery? We talking petty theft or armed robbery?

There's a good chance this guy wasn't armed.

If a guy steals a snickers from a convenient store, I don't see how that would make him more likely to rob an individual simply walking down the street.

Generally not admissible in court, with some exceptions.

I don’t think anything short of the cops finding a weapon on Jackson or witnesses saying they heard Jackson say he had a weapon will help Ward.

The DA knows the jury will automatically hate Ward. Jury will be overwhelmingly black with multiple jurors knowing someone who lives in public housing. Jackson will be a very sympathetic victim.

And if Ward's attorney tries to portray Jackson as a crazy roaming criminal it will just play perfectly in to the stereotype black people have on the way people in the legal industry view black folks in society.

. Say what? I was on a jury In orleans a few months ago and there were more whites than blacks. And the blacks were harder on the black defendant than the non blacks were. There are more important factors than race imo. Personal experiences were much more important from what I saw.

Well, thats how its supposed to be, but there is a chance the jury isn't like the one you experienced.

I think the lawyers get to sort of pick the jury, don't they?

Well it’s not gonna automatically be one full of racists like he is assuming either.

From what I’ve heard, both sides have the ability to remove a certain amount of people from the pool.

Not racists, but they wouldn't take kindly to slandering Mr. Jackson absent of facts. I know lawyers sometimes can get a little "theatrical" when trying to portray the defendant or prosecution as a monster or the opposite as a harmless individual.

maybe the woman Ward was beating on was a crack whore asking Ward for money and she got a little too close to him.

But was there a women?
quote:

Williams wrote in the murder warrant that one of the witnesses who police interviewed said Ward was "sitting outside on a tree stump when the victim (Mr. Jackson) was casually walking down the street minding his own business."

"Mr. Ward, who appeared to be drunk according to (the witness), jumped up from his stoop and began throwing several punches at Mr. Jackson's head. Mr. Ward was yelling unknown terms and Mr. Jackson was only trying to protect himself," the warrant states

Regardless if there was a woman, if the above is roughly accurate, then he's going to be in for awhile.

Blood spotted on each of Ward's hands

The warrant in the murder case states that when Wise approached Ward, Ward told the officer he was drunk. Officers from NOPD's 6th District, which polices the Lower Garden District area where the attack occurred, "also observed blood on both Mr. Ward's left and right hands,"

Sounds like NOPD checked his knuckles

And he either drew blood with one punch and continued to punch with the other, or he started punching the guy bloody. Its more probable he punched him and blood started flowing and he continued punching him.
