What happened

as with any tragedy, always more questions than answers

he was skin diving/snorkeling on that last dive since we had breathed most if not all of the tanks that were on board
this was in the days before we brought portable compressors on big trips
we found a large barracuda (#50ish)
that he either tied off or it had gotten tangled when he let go of the riding rig
it is assumed that he hit his head on an overhang in the murk layer as he ascended, causing him to drown...

Well I've met her once or twice -- super sweet.

Very sorry for the loss of your friend, regardless of it being all those years ago. God bless.

Has it been verified that they have cleared the galley? That is where I would’ve thought most of them would’ve been.

Yes .. galley was clear ... I mean unless they went into a fridge/freezer/cooler and they didn't look there.

Actually, the galley is the MOST likely place. When we go out there is always a muster station for emergencies, so more than likely the Captain had everyone muster in the galley, which is part of the main deck and the fastest escape if the boat starts taking on water. Jumping overboard is safer and easier than trying to navigate flights of stairs etc. but the Captain had no idea he was gonna end up flipping. More than likely the ones that got out were out the door and jumped or were thrown overboard during the flip. This also explains why there was nobody found in the galley- door was probably already open when it went under water.

1-David Ledet- Captain found near wreck- most likely went down with the ship and was sucked out when portholes exploded under water pressure
2-Ernest Williams- Found 33 miles away- near Cocodrie- was the one who fell in the water
3-Lawrence Warren- found in boat on Level 2 I think
4-James Wallingsford & Anthony Hartford- found together in Hull engine room on port side- may or may not be the two that were previously on the hull and went back in

6 rescued from water that night
8 souls still missing

As a wife and mother, I think for me NOT having a body to bury would be worse than death itself.

I wrote last, not least.

Last, as in, they had already searched wheelhouse, 3, 2, 1 and now were doing galley.

It was the last likely place for them to be when the boat capsized.

A good friend of mine lost his son this past November in a boating accident in the Mississippi River, just south of Vicksburg. They still have not found neither him nor his friend. Seeing the hurt on his dad that still goes out to search when he can is tough to see. He is by far one of the strongest people I know. As a father of two I could just not imagine what he is going through even after watching him go through it.

I pray for all of the families of the Seacor Power that they at least have closure.

This brings up something I was thinking about yesterday when the search got called off, and with the divers not finding more people inside.

Visibility is shite, everyone is concentrated inside the vessel, but if they were on deck when it flipped they could be hung up in rigging, or even under the mud when things came to rest...

Horrible situation all the way around... prayers to those families, and those men!!!!

ETA: now that I think about it, on every boat/rig I worked on, the muster station was always outside by the (auto inflating life rafts where the epirb’s were... they all may have been on deck when this all went down, and gotten trapped under the wreckage. Seeing as they have been pretty tight lipped about things when it comes to those rescued may say.

emergency position-indicating radiobeacon

It’s pretty much an emergency gps you can activate yourself or automatically activates itself if it gets hit water. It is registered with the USCG, so as soon as it’s activated it sends the USCG your location

Think about Onstar when you’re on the water

The underwater currents in that location are rough right now.

It’s the device every offshore person will want/fight for when shite hits the fan. Like said above... basically an automatic beacon that the coastguard can go right to pretty much anywhere on earth. I’ll wait until/if the survivors stories come out, but I’m starting to feel that the Seacor Power flipped so fast it trapped people, and life saving devices underwater. If the rafts, epirb’s and other equipment was even up to date.

I’ve seen plenty of times inspectors come on the boats, and just punch the cards wo even looking at
The equipment.
