I have no idea who fell off of the hull ... I do know one body was found I think 33 miles away. Not sure why but I thought that was the Captain?
I just in my mind can't understand how you can drop items precisely in that wind/waves. I do get that not all are equipped for rescue and that raising someone and dropping some things are very different.

Saw a report stating that the two that were found in the engine room were the ones on radio communicating with the coast guard. This was according to a poster on one of those Facebook sites. He mentioned the captain was the one who fell in and was found in South Pelto way off from the wreck. This would fit with the reports. For some reason the same Facebook sites are saying that it was two other men on the radio instead. We will have to see which story is correct when that information is released. The biggest question for me will be what did the two men in that went back into the ship after communicating that night. Was it toxic gas/fumes? Drowning with a change in the ships position in the water?

I read that Jay and Daspit were the two with radio BUT they are still missing SO if they found the ones with the radio it wasn't Jay and the Daspit gentlemen.
6 rescued
1 found 33 miles away (Captain)
2 found in engine room
2 others found on various levels?
8 missing
Is that correct?

I don’t understand either. But there were originally 5 on the hull. They were able to rescue 2, 1 fell into the water and the other 2 went back in seeking shelter.
quote:
5:10 p.m.: Coast Guard cutter Glenn Harris, one of the newest fast-response cutters, arrived on scene and saw five people on the hull. A commercial helicopter crew dropped radios and life jackets to the people. USCG was able to make contact with the people they could see.
8:47 p.m.: Harris crew was able to talk to three people on radio.
9:19 p.m.: Harris crew notified by radio [indistinguishable]. Two people were rescued. There were three people left on the rig at the time. USCG was notified by the three people remaining that one person fell in the water and wasn’t seen again.
9:53 p.m.: Harris crew notified that two remaining people were seeking shelter. Harris crew watched them go back in the vessel.
9:53 p.m. - 10:28 p.m.: Spotty communications with Seacor Power.
10:28 p.m.: Harris crew attempts to re-establish communications, but were unable to.

If they have cleared all these rooms, where are the bodies at?
when drowning occurs, you sink to the bottom
as the decomposition process advances, the gas build up floats the remains
usually 4 or 5 days...

I would think it’s just as likely that the radios were lost than anything else - if the weather was beating down on them at that time and they were seeking shelter after just watching one of their guys fall into the water, I’d be more concerned with securing myself than holding on to a radio. They could have slipped or been tossed and lost control of the radio.

I'm not sure that those Facebook reports can be trusted as it feels like a lot of people may be wish casting. Sad deal but it's entirely plausible a lot of the guys got into the water (obviously some were able to be rescued) and with the conditions being what they were before rescuers got to the scene they could have ended up anywhere out there.

Well I've mostly read Spencer Gremillions page who has posted some good info and updates but comments very well could be skewed.

I had a friend that drowned a long time ago in a bayou with zero current......he drowned and exactly 24 hours later he surfaced and we found him exactly where he went down.

I'm afraid if galley is cleared, those guys were alive and mobile
Wait. What? I'm sorry -- I've read this several times and don't understand what you're saying. It has been cleared --
I’m speculating the galley is the last likely place a group of them were when it capsized. If it’s cleared (after WH, and L1-3 are cleared), either A) they (the 8) were thrown into the water and we’ve seen no sign of them or B) they made it to the last place available with potential air.

Since the boat was just underway on a new job, several of the guys were probably hanging out in the galley, shooting the shite when the weather went south. On many of these boats, the galley also acts as the lounge.

By last, I meant last in the line of places the searchers were looking. Sorry for the confusion.

i guess depending on the decomposition process, the time it takes to surface can vary
side note
someone mentioned earlier that they were working at SS189
i lost a friend in a spearfishing accident at SS189 on
8 july 1989
the rig is about 90 feet deep
it happened late on the 3rd day (saturday) of a 3 day overnighter
we searched until dark
the ldwf and cg continued searching the surface the next day or so
as circumstance would have it, we were not able to get back out there until wednesday
6 of us, 2 man teams tethered to each other by 6 feet of line
after an unsuccessful first attempt, we were on the boat changing tanks when we smelled something
he had popped up 50 feet from the boat snorkel sticking out of the water as if he were swimming to the boat
we bagged him up and brought him home
that was day 4 of him going missing...

Was that guys wife named after a flower?? And their last name started with an "M"?

My sister in law worked with his wife (maybe in a different parish) as a county agent ... my mom was also an agent but in a not nearby parish.
I was in college and just remember thinking how completely awful.
What happened? I don't remember the whole story but did he fall off? Get pulled in??
