Experienced this in helicopter safety training. This one guy kept panicking when they flipped us underwater. Kept grabbing at people that were exiting before him.

Can someone with knowledge please explain. Were these two people no longer in danger and decided to go back down and attempt to save their co workers?
More likely they decided they were better off inside the hull than on the exterior of the hull or jumping in the GOM like the other 3. Time will tell.
I am assuming they had to dive down to access the hull through a sunken entry.

When I went to basic survival training, 2 guys were there for work on a supply vessel. Neither knew how to swim. One left, one passed...……

No doubt. Back when I took it the instructor mentioned that this was only for the certification. He said that in a real emergency you may know what to do but when the pilot hits auto rotate and the helicopter hits the water the man next to you may panic and try to rip your face off getting out.

Out of habit I try to get a window seat but if I can’t don’t really worry about it to much. That is until I have to sit by an ol boy bout tree fiddy and he starts doing the sign of the cross as we spool up and you can see that knee tap!!!
At that point I think “dayum I hope we don’t crash today” any other day is a good day for crashing but not that day!!!

Don't worry about it, people that panick will never leave their seat. I don't believe they'll get the seatbelt off. Sit by the door if they let you.

I would NEVER, EVER have made it.
Are there any women who work offshore? I mean I'm guessing that there are some but this non-bawette would NEVER make it. I'm not really even bawette -- more just -ette.

I just worry that the "blame" will be put on this gentleman as it seems so often happens when things are said and done. And maybe it was, maybe it wasn't BUT I would hate to see anyone doing any finger pointing without a thorough investigation.

A 92 is not to bad. If your in the back seat of a 139 or a 76 and your sandwiched between two scared meat mountains your fricked even if they stay buckled.

Won't fully clear until early Sunday but then the front will shift the winds to the North and fairly strong so seas will still be a bit rough.

I went through this training once. I've never been offshore but a coworker was doing it and I decided what the hell. It sounded interesting.
I am an excellent swimmer and have swam my whole life. But when they strap you in to the helicopter and the water comes rushing in, it's terrifying. Even though you know it's a simulation those few seconds under water feels like forever. And then you think some poor people actually went through this for real.
The instructor showed us a video later where a helicopter went down in the Gulf. No one came up to the surface. I asked him what was up with that and he said if you go down you likely aren't coming back up.
I tossed my SafeGulf card in the trash and never looked back

I worked with a woman who went through that training. She wasn't in my class, but some of my buddies were in her class and they said she looked scared but did OK. They said the same thing about our (male) boss.

Yeah I think that’s the reality of it. But having that training at least makes you realize and be somewhat prepared for what is going to be like if there is a crash or sinking.
So if you have had that training, go watch the video of the shrimp boat that’s in that same squall. Then imagine the chaos that ensued when it flipped,, this was not like the titanic where they sat around playing cards while they were sinking.
Comments not aimed at you btw
