Best thing to do now is to for the OP to either go to the hotel (or send a trusted family member) and wait for him in the lobby and check up on his state of mind. If he's fine - talk to him and be prepared to leave him alone. He may just want to be left alone - in which case the right thing to do would be to let his family know that he's going on holiday for a while but not all families do that.

I get this. Had a relative with a horrible drinking problem. He ultimately died from it. It was a relief when he was in jail or in a rehab.
Have a friend who has a brother with bad addiction problems, mood swings, crazy behavior who calls and badgers his mother and makes threats. The mother had to get a restraining order against him recently and go stay with another relative since he kept showing up at her home. When he gets arrested, they put him in the nuthouse for a while, but they never keep him long. His family is relieved every time he's locked up. They get a break from stressing over whether he's harming himself or someone else. They always hope they'll keep him and maybe he'll sober up, but he's just not in there long enough. There's no money to put him in a rehab, sadly, even if they could get him in one.

Ok. Few more details to share.
His debit card transactions show he paid $800 for a pair of shoes on Thursday. His buddy confirmed he told him he bought the shoes for his 13 year old daughter.
My mother says he has over $16,000 saved up. Couple the lavish shoe purchase with the stay at a luxury hotel and now we're worried he's planning a Leaving Las Vegas type suicide.
ETA: Still no visual confirmation of him at the hotel, but my mother is about to drive down to New Orleans to try to talk to him.
She is about 3 hours from there. I'm at least 12 hours away.

If I was worried my brother was going to kill himself I would be off the forum and heading to NOLA. Or wherever he was confirmed to be.

That's a lot of money he's spending in a short time period, hotel, shoes, who knows what else. Probably should get to him relatively soon...probably not overreacting at this point

Yeah. We don't have the best relationship so me going would probably make things worse. I try to hold him accountable for his actions and it has created a rift between us.
My other brother lives in the Jackson area so he is going to ride with her.

any reason to believe is arm is in a sling? saw a guy on the street car line with dark features like him. arm in a sling, smoking a cigarette. A bit disheveled

Can cops not do a wellness check right now? Just lie and say they have reason to believe he's about to kill himself. This is a some scary and sad shite, sorry you're going through it.
