Got sources for that? Not even being a dick, I'm just dumbfounded that we can spend that much on these things and still not be up to par and want to see it for myself
I know healthcare we spend more per capita by a pretty wide margin
The results are due to an unhealthy population. Doesn't matter how good the actual healthcare is. You're never going to have great health outcomes with a population that refuses to make good health choices.
Not sure about education but if there is one positive from it, our university system is the envy of the rest of the world. Not even close really.

What about the per capita spending on healthcare and education? Mainly the sources I want to see. I've googled and I mainly see articles on private spending but not public spending.

Again though, is it public (i.e. government) spending or private spending? And as far as the Healthcare thing goes, I think Doug Stanhope said it best:
Americans don't deserve free health care

It's both combined
Which is really the only way to get the true cost

Federal Budget Outlays
You may have to calculate per capa yourself, but the budget and outlays are pretty available.

If you have a family of 4 or 5 that is utilizing several different government assistance programs the dollar value that it's worth to the family might be something like 18K annually.
The actual cost to the taxpayer is more like 60K dollars

Healthcare is the real outlier we spend much more than peers.
We aren't leading in social program expenditures though. OECD data
We are near but not the top in per capita education spending. Sadly, we aren't seeing good return on investment. Need to find better ways to provide access to good public education options for the poor.

I found this LINK
Sounds like something I've always said before. Our doctors are state sanctioned drug dealers and we're spending so much trying to find the next pill you can't live without.

Substandard By what measure?
I don’t buy the fact that healthcare for even the poorest is worse than in other countries.
School performance is mostly about personal motivation. That’s a cultural problem.
What else?

100% Voucher system. The government should not own schools or set a curriculum. Similar to food stamps. government does not own grocery stores.

I am for a well though out UBI funded largely by a VAT, cuts to sime social programs and a few other things - to be effective it needs to take place along with major educational reform though. Put financial education classes, basic coding, and decent counseling in every high school - give 18 year olds some money to help them pursue school, maube start a business, etc.
Some will spend it poorly - but maybe next month theh make better choices. Dont see a good argument for holding back resources that would be huge for a strong majority of the country because we are afraid of how a minority will spend it.
And honestly if someone goes and wastes it all the the bar or buying random bullshite - who cares? That just means 100% of it got circulated back into the economy.
The only real problem is people that would go spend it on drugs and stuff that doesnt recirculate. There arent a ton of peope who get money and immediately decide to take up drugs - id wager that a notable portion of current drug users may be able to seek treatment, with UBI offering them a chance to get out of thay mess. The portugal plan seems to indicate thag integrating users back into society and the economy has a far better retention ras te of sobriety than whatever it is we do.

This is good news for me. I own property up in Benton which I now expect a sharp increase in value due to the taxpayers fleeing shreveport

Umm, I have a problem with that.
They’ll go spend it at the bar in one night or on something they can’t afford then they’ll be first in line the next day at a food bank, free clinic, or some other program costing tax payers $$$.
Now if your solution is too completely nix other social programs and UBI being the only support the bottom feeders receive, I’d see your point.

That it would but will never happen as the loss of jobs for those who administer said programs would be political suicide. I would imagine, like most things, 70 to 80% of the costs are for personnel.

frick a VAT without a commiserate cut in income tax.

I think there is an argument that we have this issue because of the way school is set up. I don't know if that's true, or what the solution is, but I can certainly see how people have an issue with the public school system.
