We will sanction them to death while we rebuild their country trying to force them into democracy which will just cost us more and more. Once congress gets rich enough from that we will halfassed withdraw and nothing will actually have been accomplished.

There were at least some folks in the Japanese high command and the emperor himself that did not want to subject civilians to any more pain. Not sure if that the case with the IRGC.
Many in the leadership roles were strapping bombs to their buddy's chests and sending them out to rush Iraqi fortified positions and minefields when they were just teenagers. If their goal is to ultimately destroy Israel in order to initiate the return of their Imam al Mahdi...they know that will result in a counter attack that will lead to the destruction of Iran. They are a death cult. They wont submit. They just have to be killed. Or keep mowing the grass as they say on their nuclear program and hope at some point a more moderate regime rises up.

We're whole assing it and can't budge them.
Not sure what everyone thinks we can do differently unless you want to try a land invasion of a country twice the size of Iran or Afghanistan. And not have any international backing while doing it.

He should and would, in my opinion, no longer be president of the country if he did something like that. This conflict has something like a 30% approval rating. The overwhelming majority of people who voted for him did not vote for this, or some obliteration of Iran and the people there. If he did what you are saying the shitstorm that would unfold in this country would be a sight to behold

Worse than what almost the entire planet does to North Korea?
NORKs have two things going for them that Iran doesn't:
1. A land umbilical from China that can supply 100% of the country's needs. The land umbilical to Iran is long, restrictive, and can't supply anything like 100% of their needs.
2. The NORKs had been eating grass to survive with no outside world connections for nearly half a century when the main global sanctions kicked in to try to stop their nuke program. Iran had internet, and a semi-function civilization before all this. Their population will not submit so easily.
