Yamauchi, 42, told the station she didn't want to cause a scene, remembering recent United incidents such as the Kentucky doctor, David Dao, who was violently dragged off his flight in April.
People think United screwed up, I'd say their plan to keep customers in line through fear was working.

Best case is she has to get off the flight to deal with the shite, I would rather be uncomfortable for the flight, get to the other end and then deal with them.
Right, but in order to do that she had to compromise her son's safety. Thats a terrible choice to make between raising hell on a flight and protecting your child or staying quiet and hoping nothing bad happens. What would have happened if theh experienced a big drop in altitude during the flight and hes not strapped in? Thats why there are policies in place mandating that 2 year olds get their own seat and seatbelt.

Free flights for life on United? That's more of a punishment than a reward.
Posted on 7/6/17 at 8:54 am to NYNolaguy1
Not as big a deal, but I flew Continental or a Transatlantic flight back to the States after a post college trip. A flight attendant made me put some woman's diaper bag in my leg space the whole flight since she didn't have enough room for the the rest of her stuff for her kids. I think that was obnoxious.
On second thought, nowadays the airline would probably be praised and I would be bastardized for complaining about having to help a traveling mother ??

If offered do you take a 6 figure payout or do you accept free flights for life? Especially if no restrictions
1st class and no blackout dates? I'd really need a companion pass too.
I would probably still take the 6 figure payout. I haven't paid for a flight in years. My credit card(s) do that

And what did the mom look like?

I'm assuming she forgot to scan her son's ticket and the employee at the scanner assumed he was under 2 years old.
The employee may have assumed but even an infant has a boarding pass so that's not likely she forgot.
I fly United a lot because of miles and never really had a problem but in this case I would have told the attendant to get fricked - especially if my kid is already sitting in his paid for assigned seat.
And I'm assuming the guy that took the seat gave no fricks either.

Payday and free flights for life
I can never tell if this sarcasm or people really think that this woman will get paid and get free flights. She will get her money back and probably some flight credits.

United got that mind control.

Well having traveled a long time with children at 27 months on an airplane infant isn't a stretch and it was just a comment. I have adult children I still call them kids.
However it is not relevant anyway as she paid for the ticket as required of over 2. It's not like she was getting a free ride. She paid - frick them.

but is everyone going to go to the news every time United makes a mistake?
If we never hear about these things, they have less incentive to fix these issues going forward, why would you want that?

It amazes me how bad the airlines are at customer service and pr.
