but he never told anyone his real name ... which, as i said, is par for the course with hikers.
Seems like a great way to not be identified if you're ever missing or found dead.

His cash was in his tent and food was nearby. The story said he was down to 83 pounds when he was found dead. Bizarre to say the least

He only gave her his trail name, not his real name. It's how hikers do it, from what i'm told.
Is that for anonymous sex or something

What was cause of death?
Again, here's another eerie fact. Autopsy was inconclusive. He had wasted away to 83 lbs when found dead. Chrohn's Disease? I don't think any definitive proof of what killed him was found.

Was this some type of “Into the Wild” death?

It's mind boggling that someone can go unidentified i 2020 ... but then again, it's 2020.

He WAS quoted as saying something along the lines of he wanted to hike the trail "while he still could" ... so, who knows?

Well he was found in Collier county, Fl. Maybe you want to add Florida SouthWestern State College - Collier Campus to your title. My point is, he lived and traveled many places. Saying he may have LSU ties is the same as saying he possibly went to SUNY.

He looks like a guy who would get murdered under mysterious circumstances

He may have LSU ties because he told people he was from Baton Rouge. That means it's possible that he may have ties to LSU.
Everyone in the articles online keeps saying that there has to be a family out there that misses him and wonders why no missing person report out there leads back to him. Hmmm... maybe he killed his entire family before going on that hike and that could be why he wanted to be totally untraceable and start a new life.
Let's start looking for unsolved family murder cases, OT.

Possible, my hunch on LSU is that he stated to a few hikers that he was born in Baton Rouge, and his coding background shows he was educated, so i was hoping he has some connection to LSU.
Thanks!

my friend hiked the AT in 2016, started on April 5, and reached Katahdin on September 28 ... 2189.1 miles.
I'll ask if he remembers "Denim" or knows of the story.
here is the AT hiking journal , looks like Denim or Mostly Harmless never entered his blog ....
this picture may or may not help, (8/15/16) from Kilington, VT at the Inn at Long Trail.
This is where the AT and the VT long trail split from each other. Attendees
were both AT and Long Trail Hikers.

That wiki link has a lot of pics of this person. Obviously getting them circulated in the right geographic location is key. On the other hand how often do people check missing persons articles where they live.
