No need to apologize. I’m just curious.

A lot of messed up things have happened since 2016....what about this situation speaks to you?

He only gave her his trail name, not his real name. It's how hikers do it, from what i'm told.

I was introduced to this story because a coworker thought i looked a lot like him. I guess that fact makes it kinda personal for me.

To be honest, I think you know who he is. If not, what about the 5 other people in those photos? How do you know he claimed to be born in Baton Rouge if he's a John Doe?

There have been several threads on this guy. It's very strange not a single soul has a clue who he is.

So sorry if i'm reposting the same stuff, maybe this one time the right person will see him.

Again, sorry if this seems like SPAM, the LSU community seems to be like family so i was hoping there would be someone who knows and misses him.

It's a strange case. He hiked the Appalachian Trail, and when hiking, hikers use trail names (not unlike usernames here) and don't really share personal details. Many people hiked with him for days or weeks, and then they parted.

Once he was found deceased and his photo was shared by the last person who met him, many hikers came forward with photos and stories, but he never told anyone his real name ... which, as i said, is par for the course with hikers.

First, it was "Denim" (because he was hiking while wearing jeans, which meant he was obviously new to hiking) and later "Mostly Harmless", probably a reference to the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Great question, i was confused too. Seems hikers use "trail names" instead of their real names, for security i guess. His was "Denim" and then later "Mostly Harmless"

No cell phone with texts or calls to people who can identify him? No cell service or internet account with his information to trace his number or IP address to?

Here is David Allan Coe's take on it...

quote:

Divers do it deeper
Pilots do it higher
Bricklayers always make it just a little bit stronger (stronger)
Doctors do it cleaner
Bikers do it meaner
Cowboys stay in the saddle just a little bit longer
Divers do it deeper
Jockeys do it shorter
Bricklayers always make it just a little bit stronger (stronger)
Sailors do it wetter
Soldiers do it better
But cowboys stay in the saddle just a little bit longer

Kinda like back in college at the bars. Ironic because the intent then was to NOT leave a trail.

Again, great question. He only carried cash and had no cell phone.

I have seen similar threads a lot, but none of the ones like it tie him to LSU. What have you discovered that ties him to LSU?

He worked in coding and IT so he's obviously educated, and told a few people he was born in Baton Rouge. It's a hunch on my part, which is why i said POSSIBLE ties to LSU. This case is so strange, there are no definitives.

Why would someone go hiking without identification? There aren't any sort of permits or registrations you have to go through?
