Young me would buy the drywall, aand put it up. Young me would buy the drywall, get somebody to put it up for aboot $100, then pay the neighbor kids $50 to clean up the mess.

I mean, that's not that bad. Great opportunity to throw some shite out. Some stuff to clean up and rehang some drywall. I hope it goes quicker than you think. While you're at it, might want to get some runners in your attic so you don't have that happen again.

Sounds like you handled it correctly.

After drinking a few, see if the local HS sports teams do day labor for fundraising. They'll clean it up for ya.

At thin point I'm actually surprised when shite goes right.

Was tailgating at baseball and got the back window of my truck knocked out by a BP homerun. I just took in stride and called Safelite. People at the tailgate were " how are you so calm?". I just said, it's the story of my life.

Subtle I don't have to climb in the attic to reach my Halloween, Christmas, Easter shite any longer. Just carely guide myself through my garage now. Lol

I had plywood sheets

Or Particle board? There's a real difference.

Now that you have some access, you can move real plywood up there through the rafter holes and make it a quality storage area.

If your yard is a heavy clay, you can just sweep the dust out side and water it in. It is what soil conditioners are composed of, and you might as well use your bi-products of the collapse

One other thing: is there a leak in the roof that weakened the sheet rock? Was a vapor barrier between the sheet rock and the studs (that would have held the insulation up as the sheet rock was hung.)
Can you salvage the insulation, if it was insulated?

No leaks just eight years of accumulation and not taking the time in my hot arse attic to make sure I had it stored correctly.

This reminds me of going to the store right down the street to get one thing you need ( you’ve seen that one thing there many times but not today) …

4 hours later and many stores later looking for that one thing… the day is pissed away.

Drinking ensues…

It’s not as bad as you think.

Start 2 piles. One for garbage, one for good stuff.

Now that what you’re keeping and what you’re getting rid of is decided, check for a structural issue.

Proceed with the drywall repair. Doesn’t have to be perfect. Just screw on the new drywall.

Now you’re back to square one. And I believe you can get to this point by the end of the day.

The most important part, though, is piling up the mess in the trash pile. That way you have a plan for the parts you don’t want, and it’s all in one spot.

You can do it.

His plan for the day was to get his decorations down. Based on the OP, sounds like he finished early, so why not crack one open?

If I have control over it - - I control it, handle it, fix it or do whatever is necessary so it is no longer a problem.

If I have no control over it - - I say F*#% it.

Well, some people do care what it looks like. Almost the exact same scenario happened to me, and I ended up on the garage floor after trying to retrieve Christmas decorations from the attic. I am pretty good at flying jets, but apparently my drywall skills are lacking. I patched up the hole, but it didn’t turn out great. When my wife saw it, she said I must have drinking when I fixed because it looked terrible. I had been, but that is not why it sucked. It sucked because I don’t have that skill set. I called a dude, and he fixed it properly.

Sorry my baw. My wife told me at least you didn't fall. In the big scope I am thankful that only some shite fell out the attic and I wasn't one of it. I am going back in now to try and savage what I can.
